Ok guys, remember me? lol.. The system is basically complete.. well, the part arrivals.. lol, I get the rest of them tomorrow.. but I wanted to know about overclocking.. like how is it done, and I know I can do it to the processor.. but can't you overclock ram too? How do you do it and stuff and what can it be done to? :) Thanks for all the help with HW suggestions.. and thanks for the answers here. :)

Here's how you can overclock

1. Turn on computer
2. Press the DEL button a couple of times
3. Depending on your motherboard bios, look for a menu with CPU settings, etc
4. Change your Front Side Bus (FSB) I have no idea what pc you have but if you have a P4, the FSB would be 200MHz. If you have P4 2.8GHz then the multipler would be 14. So if you up your FSB to say...216MHz, your resulting overclock would be 3.024GHz.
5. Increase your V/Core...careful not to increase too much.
6. Set PCI/AGP lock....graphix cards and such don't run well above 66/33MHz
7. Check your memory, select Cpu/Memory dividers that are stable.
8. If you have more headroom, tighten your ram timings.
9. DON'T OVERDO IT.

Phew, hope that helps

If you are confused don't do it. If you want to destroy your computer, though, I'm all for it. Just post pics of smoldering aluminum (and/or steel).

I strongly agree. Do not o/c if you are a complete "n00b," or confused on the subject.

With overclocking the key is patience. Slow and steady, never try to overdue it. Remember we were all noobs when we started as well.

Make sure that you raise in slow incremenets 5mhz or less. I advise to test with Prime 95 , 3Dmark 03 etc.

Good Luck

I would suggest to research as much as possible first and take 'baby steps'. there are lots of posts here at anandtech about the subject but
you could damage something if you dont know what ur doing.

Yes, first get a thorough understanding of everything an overclock can do, and how to do those things, and how to recover from them if things go haywire.
