You know my first overclocked CPU was a 366 @550. That was when the top of the line CPU were PIII 500s. My celeron was the fastest chip in my dorm. My next CPU was a 566 @ 850. That was even more sweet. Although not quite as stable as the 550, It was a solid overall CPU. I mean My CPU jumped up 33% in performance just fom overclocking. It's too bad that I don't see anymore chips that have such a big headroom. It's seems like people are trying so hard to get their FSB over 140 and It's so rare to hear people doing 166 which sounds very natural. You knlow, it just isnt fun to overclok anymore.... SIGH>....

Try and overclock a Northwood Pentium 4 1.8AGHz or a 1.6A GHz.

I guarantee that will be more fun.

I was spoiled early on. My Celeron 300A ran stable at 527..... A 75% o/c is hard to match, Everything since then has been lame..

I am running my 1ghz athlon at 1.33 ghz and some people run theirs over 1.5 ghz, mine is a 33% increase and theirs is a 50% increase. Its still as fun, but they added more road blocks.

I tend to agree, to a point. While processor speed has tripled and the architecture improved considerably, the other vital stuff hasn't done nearly so well. HDD, chipset and memory performance hasn't improved nearly as much.

Going to 450 with a 300a made a profound difference, the rest of the system was ready to handle it. Going from 1gig to 1.5 doesn't seem so great, the processor just seems to get more waiting around time.

I suppose this varies with different apps, and I've got to admit that the newer graphics cards are amazing, but processor speed isn't the bottleneck anymore... so the results of overclocking seem to be less satisfying....

Oh, I don't know.......overclocking my Celeron 1.1a to 1507mhz was a lot of fun :)
400mhz overclock is pretty impressive in anybody's book don't you think?

Yeah I am impressed with a 1.2 to 1.65 OC with my cel-t 1.2GHz. I think that equals out to a 37% OC. I know some can get a 1.0a to 1500MHz. That is a 50% OC. I mean I think I am going to see much more of a difference going from 1200 MHz to 1650MHz than a 300MHz to 500MHz OC.

You will notice a 500MHz increase with the cel-t.

Imagine running a 150fsb versus a 100fsb in quake or other mem intensive apps with the cel-t 1.0a. With H2O cooling one may get the chip to 160fsb or higher. Plus you can run it on a watch battery and cool it with a small HS.

................ because most of us don't NEED even a 1GHz cpu!! We're obviously on an exponential scale when it comes to processor performance over the last decade.

My Athlon 1.0 @ 1.43 is running quite nicely now (43% O/C), at limit of motherboard (Abit KT7, @ 13*110 FSB)

I think this could go higher with a better motherboard :)

It seems really sluggish when i'm back @ 1.0GHz, mainly because of the slower fsb.

Hey ConfusedBW, which bios are you using? I got the same board with a duron 950 @ 1100 stable.

Just wondering if I could push it a little more.:D

My first oc was pretty lame a p3 500@560 anyhigher and the system became unstable I gave that system to my parents.
My next attempt was a 333 Celeron its been runnig @ 525 for 3 years now.
I have been afraid to oc my AMD's as they will burn themselves up then nothing@nothing=nothing.
My wife who cannot find the power button most of the time is asking why her 1 gig P3[ it is a 133 mghz so it would go 1060 which is not worth worryig about] is so much slower than the 1700 xp i am using.

i have had alot of oc's all very good ones

best by far was a 600e which was new at the time and pushed it to 930mhz with a peltier

lately its been a 1333 @ 1600 took 2 volts to get it stable and h2o for cooling.

then my friends 1800+ xp that went easily to 1725 mhz 1.8 volts he didnt want to go any higher cause we were at 150 bus.
