overclocking advice

hi, i got a minor problem with overclocking my q6600. when i try to overclock from 300 to 305 fsb i get a error and windows shuts down on me. should i go by increments of 1? here are some specs

q6600 G0 stepping
2x1Gb mushkin(?sp) ddr2 800 mhz ram 4-5-4-11
asus P5K motherboard
320 gig WD HDD
Sycthe Infinity w. 2 fan push-pull configuration
xfx 8800 gt 512 mb
500 W power supply

Core Temp
35,32,35,32
 
have you read any overclocking guides, such as the sticky'd at the top of this forum?
when you set your fsb to 305, whats your ram running at?
500W PSU, thats comforting (quad core req's lots of power, and clean power)
 
i did read it, i just dont know which part is hindering me

i got the antec case which has a 500 earth watt power supply

the memory frequency is running at 364.8 mhz and the voltage for both memory and cpu is on auto.
 
ok i got it up to 3.2 ghz stable so far but i havent been able to get any higher. the cpu voltage is at auto and ram voltage at 2.15v. core temps are 51,48,51,48. what else to i need to tinker with to get it higher?

Geez man read the darn OC tips before you start -
Set your CPU voltage MANUALLY (NEVER LEAVE AT AUTO when entering OC land) - try say 1.38 or 1.40
Reduce your RAM volts to about 2.05 for now.
 
Is your RAM rated to run at 4-5-4-11 or did you tighten the timings yourself? If you did that yourself (and honestly even if you didn't) loosen them back up to 5-5-5-15 and see if that has any impact on how high you can go.
 
I would go back and read the guides if I were youand follow them to the letter. I would not leave the cpu voltage at auto unless you want a coaster for your shotglass.


When I overclock I run Prime95 after each 5 mgz increase. That might be a tad too careful but it works for me
