OTOH, it's great if it's free and easy. My first o/c was my Cele 300A @ 450 MHz. It was a no sweat, no noise, no cost, no nonsense deal. Just set the Abit BH-6 for the 100 MHz FSB, use PC-100 RAM, and have fun running an $80 chip that kept up with a $500 PII 450 while the RAM and all peripherals ran at thier normal speeds.
Now, I'm running a 1 GHz T-Bird @ 1.33 GHz. Same deal. I just upped the FSB to 133 MHz, and it was stable from day one. My fan is a bit noisey, but it was the same one recommended for the 1 GHz chip, so it's no different than it would have been without o/c-ing. One of these days, I may buy a new HS/fan combo because there are quieter units, now. Meanwhile, I'm only running @ 133% of the chip's rated speed, which is visibly faster than running it stock.
