Overclocking Abit KV8 and A64 2800+

I just got this combo from newegg and it should be arriving tommorow. I read that the agp and pci frequencies divide to the regualar values at a fsb of 234MHz with this setup. This A64 2800+ should be able to reach this fsb with the stock hsf. I don't know alot about overclocking but how does this sound to those more experienced? This would make an almost 300mhz overclock. One dude at newegg commented that he was able to get a 300mhz overclock witht the 2800+ and the abit board, and im sure this is how it was done. Now I have some Crucial DDR266 that I will try in the setup for now, but will this memory run ok if we are able to overclock like this? Could someone give me advice on how to go about doing this. The multiplier is upward locked at 9. If I could get the FSB (or whatever it is now) to 234, would my pci and agp be normal values? and how would the ram respond (i think i could lower the memory setting the bios so it clocks up to 266 but i would prefer to try to overclock it to 333). Thanks for all the help guys.

I HIGHLY doubt that your 266 RAM will run at 333...unless it has the loosest latencies possible (3-4-4-8, or whatever). You could try running your FSB / memory ratio asynchronously, though. I definetly recommend getting better memory, because as it stands, I don't think that you'll be able to run that chip even at its stock speeds.

just try different ratios... IE, 4:3 and w/e else is in your board.

If you do 1:1, the fsb of your cpu will be the fsb of your ram. So 234 fsb would be 2x234 on ur ram

forget the memory for a second... what do u think about the rest of this theory with the agp and pci returning back to 66mhz and 33mhz respectively once a fsb of 234 is reached? Can the Athlon 64 2800+ overclock to 9x234 or 2106MHz relatively easily? If so then everything else in the computer would not be affected by the fsb overclock if the ratios return the speed of the agp and pci to their normal values... am I right on this?

Thanks

Dude,
Your PCI is locked at 33, but the AGP is not locked. So to reach 300FSB, your video card will definitely crap out first.

Neither the agp or pci is locked with this board. In the anandtech review it states "Abit has done an outstanding job in partially correcting the AGP/PCI lock problem by implementing additional multipliers that allow standard 66/33 AGP/PCI clocks at 233 and 266." Im not trying to get the fsb to 300, only 233. Can the A64 2800+ reach this speed 233x9 = 2097MHz relatively easily with stock HSF?

I'll have this exact same combo in a couple of weeks, so I'll keep an eye on this thread to see what you're able to do with it. Although I'll have some CH-5 chips to test with it, and a 6800 to enjoy the beauty.
