I have just bought a new computer primarily with the aim of overclocking so have top notch components, and after some basic attempts to overclock I have to perform a cmos reset at an fsb of 220.

I set the ram to ddr 266 speed, and the multiplier for the processor to x5. The processor, northbridge and gfx card are all water cooled and running early / mid 20's, gfx is mid 30's.

I have checked the motherboard for any areas of heat in case something else is overheating which I am not cooling but couldnt find anything.

Here is the kit i have

600w Seasonic S12-600 SLi Ready Silent PSU
256MB MSI PCI-E GF7800GTX DV ViVo
Abit KN8 Ultra PCI-E S939 NF4 DDR400
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 3800 + S939 512K
Asetek 03-L-1217 WaterChill CPU/VGA/Chipset Xtreme kit KT12A-12V Dual
250Gb Western Digital WD2500KS Caviar SE16 (7200rpm,16Mb) - SATA II NCQ Lead Free
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Series EL-DDR CAS2

Did you change the HTT multiplier to 4 before increasing the FSB above 200? If you didn't thats most likely your problem. You need to keep the HTT at 1000 or less..

Got it all together now, and managed to get the processor running at nearly 2.6ghz compared to the 2.0ghz stock speed. Bit dissapointed with the ram as it only overclocks to 220mhz which is poor but after speaking the Ocz guides that to be expected with what i bought.

Gfx has also had a bit of speed bump to 495 core, and 1.35ghz mem.

3dpcmark05 score of 8812 which aint too shabby eh

Very nice, glad I could help. A64's aren't bandwidth starved anyway, so not getting a good OC on the ram doesn't impact performance much.

Just makes the point that ram isnt the be all and end all, so next time i buy value ram rather than pay a premium for 'quality' ram

How much voltage did you give your RAM? Hopefully you aren't on stock volts still..

Give it minimum 2.9v (VDIMM) and you should be able to raise your RAM speed. Also, what are your current RAM timings? Can you post CPU-Z screens showing the RAM tab? Maybe we could help you get the RAM performing better for you.

btw - I think you mean 3DMark05 - not 3DPCMark05 🙂 (two different benches). Anyway, 8812 is a very nice score.

Hi El,

Its running at 2.9 volts and my timings, not sure how to put a screenshot into the forum but my ram timings are

Freq : 211.9 mhz
Cas Latency : 2.5
Ras to Cas : 3
Ras Precharge : 3
Cycle time : 8
Bank Cycle Time : 11
Dram Idle Timer: 16

Thanks in advance 🙂
