Overclocking A8R-MVP

Ok, i posted a few days ago about overclocking help and i was directed to: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=28&threadid=1497607

Well, I have read that and I understand generally what I need to do. The problem is that, the terminology on all these motherboards seem to be a little different and I cant seem to identify what corresponds from the above guide, to my A8R-MVP.

Here is what I have indentified on my board that seems to involve overclocking:

CPU Frequency (200-400)
Processor Frequency Multiplier (x4 - x25.5)
Memclock value (100,133,166,183,200,216,233,250)
HT Link Speed (200,400,600,800,1000)
All the RAM timings (CAS, TRAS, TRP, TRCD, TRRD, TRC, TRFC, TRWT)
DDR Voltage (2.65 - 3.2)
VCore over-voltage D/E
PCI-E Voltage (1.2-1.5)

I guess what I am confused about is the HTT, and also the LDT x HTT equation that needs to stay below 1000.

Can anyone please help clarify some of these things to me? If anyone is familiar with Zebo's guide from the link above, I would GREATLY appreciate some translation from his guide to my board (like I said, mainly Im confused about the whole HTT thing). I think I could probably try it and figure it out, but I dont wanna jank up my new system right off the bat because I dont know what Im doing. Thanks for the help.

CPU Frequency (200-400) That's your HTT (used to be known as FSB)
Processor Frequency Multiplier (x4 - x25.5) CPU multiplier
Memclock value (100,133,166,183,200,216,233,250) RAM dividers
HT Link Speed (200,400,600,800,1000) HT multi aka LDT. Set that to 800 for light OCing; 600 if your HTT is over 250
All the RAM timings (CAS, TRAS, TRP, TRCD, TRRD, TRC, TRFC, TRWT)
DDR Voltage (2.65 - 3.2)
VCore over-voltage D/E
PCI-E Voltage (1.2-1.5)

I'm also gonna post my basic A8R-MVP OCing guide.
This is merely a good starter guide, but it should help.

Everything you'll need to change is in the advanced menu.

First, go to Advanced. Pic.
Then CPU Configuration. Pic.
Second to the bottom, you'll see i've brought up the HT Link Speed menu. Set that to 800 aka 4x, or later, if you raise your HTT (FSB) to over 250, then set to 600.
800 for now though.

Now go to the last item in the CPU Configuration menu, Memory Configuration (right below HT Link Speed). Pic.

See how i've set Memclock Mode to Limit?
Set it like that, & then select Memclock Value like i have in that pic, & select the 166 divider.
Later on, you can try different dividers, etc., when you find out your RAM's maximum overclock.

To make sure RAM is set to 1T, see this part of the Memory Configuration menu: Pic.
Go to User Config Mode & set that to manual, & you will then be able to go down to CMD-ADDR Timing Mode & select 1T.

Above that you see MCT Timing Mode, which are all the timings for your RAM.
I'd suggest leaving those settings at auto for now, but if you wish, you can set your CAS, TRAS, TRP, & TRCD to what your RAM is rated for.

Now, to actually overclock the CPU.
Go back to the main advanced menu, & select JumperFree Configuration.
That takes you here: Pic.

Since you now have set up your HT Link speed & RAM divider, you can now begin to gradually raise the HTT, or as its worded there, CPU frequency.
Unlike the other selections, you have to select CPU frequency, & then manually key in the speed you want.
Start off slow. 205, then if that's successful back in Windows, 210, etc.
For now, i'd suggest setting Vcore to 1.4V, & leaving overvoltage off.
For Ram, 2.65-2.8 is safe for now. Use whatever yours is rated for.

With each increase, check the stability with those programs i mentioned earlier.

CPU-Z is a great program for telling you what speed your CPU & RAM are running at, if you don't have that already.

n7, you da man. Thats exactly what I needed. Appreciate that alot. But, there is just one more thing. When zebo talks about isolating the CPU for overclocking, he says, "set the multiplier to its maximum." Well, on my board it goes from 4x all the way up to 25x. What do i set that at when trying to do the isolating portion of the CPU. I dont think there is any way i could set it at 25, but when he says to set it at its maximum, what does that mean???

max means the max for the chip.

so for a 3800+ X2 you'd set it to 10x
for a 3700+ you'd set it to 11x
for a 4000+ you'd set it to 12x
for a 4400+ X2 you'd set it to 11x

etc... :)

ok cool, i figured it was for the chip, i just didnt know what the max for my 3700+ was, now I know :D
