Overclocking a 6600GT

Just got a 6600GT (PCI-e) for my new and improved A64 system😀, and I've got a couple questions about overclocking this card:
1. What yields better performance results: core speed or memory speed?
2. How high should I be able to go with stock cooling without artifacting in Doom3?
3. What program should I use? I used ATI Tool to overclock my old 9800Pro, and I've grown very fond of it. Will that work with Nvidia cards?

Asistance Apreciated 😀

30min is sometimes not enough time for people to respond, this is not ATOT.

I find a blend of overclocking both core and mem works well with my 6800GT. That "how high" question is silly as OC's are variable from card to card. Who knows how high you will be able to go until you try. Overclock a little, play Doom3, if no artifacts push a little more. rinse and repeat.

I assume ATI tool will not work as it is, well, "ATI" tool and not "nVidia" tool. I use coolbits to overclock my card and others use rivatuner which also works well.

Thats my $.02

for 6600gt, i've heard of them ocing it to 570/1100 or even 600/1200

and it shows the difference
also, you need a good PSU to do it, which i'm assuming you do

I do, Antec 450Watt. 600/1200 huh? Now I have something to shoot for😉

my XFX could only do 545/1090 on stock cooling, but with a Zalman VF700 AlCu, i got it up to 570/1140. It definitely varies, though.

Is this stable (gaming) ? How does Doom3 or HL2 react to this?

I'm going to start playing with overclocking my VC and just wanted to know what everyone's getting out there too!

Thanks,

XFX 6600gt 128MB (AGP) -- I was able to get it to 600 core / 1.12 mem stock cooling, 520 watt psu

ran 3d2k03 and 3d2k05 and aquamark 3 in a row with 0 artifacts....

guess it does varies... also, playing Doom 3...plays good, but Doom 3 relies ALOT on mem, I had only 512 mb of Mushkin and it would only play it on medium settings at 1024X768, I swapped out that ram with 2 sticks of 512 MB ddr400 and play Doom 3 on high settings now... (just for some info for "sep" )

hmmm i play doom 3 on all high settings at 12x10...at first its slow, but as you go on it speeds up

but yeah, maybe i didnt heard 1200mhz mem OC, but still, i'm sure someone has done it somewhere...550/1100 is very very common

oh yeah, just use rivatuner to OC it...first, add about a 10%increase to both core and mem speeds. if no artifacting occurs, keep bringing it up.
Once you see artifacts, take the core and mem speeds about 10mhz (sometimes 5) from where it artifacted at. (artifacted...lol....thats not even a word...or is it?)

have you OCed it yet?
