please link me to where it says your ram was made for Sandy Bridge. if it was then no way should it default to 1.65 and anyone that knows anything at all about Sandy Bridge knows that. again do whatever you want to your components since they are yours to destroy. and whether its in one week or one year, they are being damaged. and I sure as heck hope you do not ever intend to sale them to anyone else later.

toyota, I know this may seem counter-intuitive to you, but it is true and it is happening.

The ram I bought, a 4x4GB DDR3-2133 GSkill kit, advertised as 1.5V @ 2133 for Intel XMP.

Designed for 2nd Generation Intel Core Processors and Z68 & P67 platforms 1.5V Ultra low voltage Intel XMP ready Extreme 2133MHz memory speed Maximum 16GB density

And yet it "defaults" to 1.65V D: on my asus maximus iv extreme-z mobo and stays there until I go into the bios to manually change it to the 1.5V rating specified by the SPD and XMP profiles.

According to Intel, this has already resulted in my warranty being voided

well the official ram support is for 1333 and below. if you go above that speed then you will have to select the XMP profile or manually change it to have it run at its proper advertised specs.
