I'm going for 1000 but once I start testing a few mins in msi shuts down {freeze). I've used 1.2~1.3 volts any ideas?

What are your temperatures? I've got a 4870 with an aftermarket cooler that has manual fan control, and if I play a particularly GPU intense game for too long with the fan set to low, it'll just black-screen on me due to overheating.

I highly doubt you will hit those speeds with a 5770. Start with it at 900, and then slowly increase. But I don;t think I have ever seen one hit a 1GHz.

Yeah, not worth it anyways. The performance difference is minimal. I own an MSI hawk 5770 and I really dont care to try and oc it. The only thing you can do is start gradually and see whats stable.

I think I got around 930 on stock volts on my 5770. Memory increases were pretty small. Voltage might get you a little more, but 1000 is not likely without significant cooling.

Wow spammers are getting a tiny bit more clever now...

If it can't hit 1GHz at any acceptable voltage (to you), then it's probably not going to. If you need more performance, sell it off and use it to fund an upgrade.

Well of course im going to upgrade but when playing well a 180 dollar card bought over a year seems more reasonable to me by learning to overclock. Then purchasing a 250-350 and burning it out. I want my math 100% before slamming my new gpu to its breaking point.

You paid $180 for a 5770 in the last year? They were $160 at launch 2.5 years ago.

But at 80C, that card is too hot. You are going to need a lot more cooling to get anywhere passed what you OC'ed it to when you hit 80C. And I don't think OC'ing that card would be similar to OC'ing say, a 7850. Because the 7850 is an entirely different architecture. And they just act very differently from each other.

Older amd gpus didn't become linearly faster with clock. And even 20% additional performance which would probably need a 40% overclock won't make this gpu good enough for current games. Sorry bro

Maybe he bought it in a country where theres a tariff on computer components.

Best buy lol.. At the time money was tight and if anything went wrong with the gpu I wanted a replacement asap.. Which infact I did the first 5770 I bought was a mess. Idle at 60c got in the hundreds while etc. But a few months later its was on clearance only 100 bucks so I went crossfire. Same thing nothing but problems and im only running 16x 4x.. nice boost, but not worth the hassle.

If you have two, you could sell them for $75 each. I sold mine for that much 2 weeks ago. $150 is a very nice step towards a 6950... I've seen some of them at $200 here.

I had the same issue you did. The 5770 was starting to lag behind especially at 19x12, and overclocking it (got it to 947/1028) didn't help much, so I got a 6950 for $170 new. Does everything I need now and then some.

5770 should easily hit 1000 core and 1400 memory

Right after I bought the second card I just returned it Wasn't worth it. I'm thinking about grabbing a 7850 or a 7870
