Overclocking 2800+ Barton

Hi all

Just got my new computer, a Athlon XP 2800+ Barton, 512MB PC3200 DDR, ECS L7VTA (VIA KT400 chipset), Hightech Excalibur Radeon 9600 PRO.

In my BIOS, which doesn't allow to alter too many things since it's a cheap motherboard, I can in a section called "Frequency/Voltage Control" manually set the CPU Clock between 100MHz and 200MHz. It was default at 166 (2,08GHz), but I changed it to 176 (approx.) and got 2,22GHz. I can also adjust the CPU voltage, and the DIMM voltage.

So with these sparse options, how do I overclock my 2800+ Barton with stock cooling within the not too extreme limits?. I'm a novice, so what settings should be tried. I have heard of 2500+ Bartons being overclocked to a 3200+, but with extra cooling.

Thanks

you may want to invest a little in an aftermarket hsf unit....

they are not too expensive and get you some nice speeds with decent temps..

.... yeah... those are my two favorite places for hsf units (except i haven't bought one in a while 🙂)

yep, the people getting the most out of their 2500+'s have water but if you want to stick to air get up 60-70bucks and get a slk900 and a nice fan. opinions on fans are more diverse than anything so you will just have to look at the specs. some people suggest the Tt smartfan 2 because it knows when to shut up but other suggest a ystech or a zalman of just about any brand out there. just look around and find one that suits you and what you are going to do with the computer. and remember higher cfm at lower rpm mean performance and silence.

yeah the slk-800 is a good heatsink
my only gripe about the ys tech fan is I wish it had a few more rpm's
I like the long cord and knob to adjust the speed but i always leave it full speed
