CPU: 3ghz P4 (800mhz FSB)
RAM: 2GB (4 x 512) Crucial PC3200
Motherboard: Abit IC7-G
Video: Crucial Radeon 9800

looking to push the system to about 3.5 ghz (15 x 233).. what are my chances of that with the current configuration? Heatsink/fan will be arriving soon (Thermalright SLK900U and a Tornado 119CFM 92MM Fan)... Also.. ive noticed a lot of companies (corsair/mushkin/ocz) have heat spreaders on their memory sticks.. crucial doesnt do this.. would adding them have any influence in my chances at overclocking the system?

There are two positive things about heat spreaders. First they protect the chips so they are less likely to be damaged. And second they decrease the temperature of the chips up to 4 C, depending on the material. That could be important when the memory is powered with more voltage. They also look better. ;)

i dunno how high you can push those crucial pc3200...

if they are the same chips as the ones that the pc3700 ocz gold uses, then you have a good chance of doing ddr466 or a fsb of 233 using a 1:1 ratio

else, you're prolly gonna have to use the 5:4 divider so your fsb of 233 will equate to ram of 186.4 mhz

yup...

you said they had no heat spreaders so go check out the article on the anandtech mainpage ... it tells you what chips they are... it's someting like Samsung TCB3 or something close to that...

they use micron chips. I have 1x512 MB Crucial PC3200 and all of the memory chips are micron tech.

Have you tried overclocking with that stick of ram? if so, how much luck did you have doing so?
