Overclock setting for Opteron 170

I just replaced my A64 3200+ with an Opteron 170 and the overclocking game has begun!

HT is 4x and I am running a 2/1.5 Memory divider allowing me to get to 2.6 GHz (with 260 x10)

I would like to go for 2.8, and maybe 3.0.

Would I need to lower the HT to 3x?
Does lowering the Memory divider to 1.33, or for that matter the HT, start to affect performance in other areas? Or does the benefit of processor speed outweigh them?

I remember Zebo doing extensive testing with RAM and its performance on A64 chips but I can't seem to find the forum post
 
Want to know how to overclock an A64? One thing to remember, keep total HTT below 1,000. I.E., 250x4, 333x3, 500x2, etc. And having your memory @ 1:1 is always better. Keep your memory as high as possible, without limiting your overclock. That's why good overclocking motherboards come with more dividers than 166, 133, and 100 Mhz.

A64's suffer very little from running a ram divider, so running @ 1:1 isn't anywhere near as important as overall cpu speed. Set you ram divier to 100 (DDR 200) until you find your max stable cpu speed. Once you have done that then you can increase your ram speed to find it's max stable speed.
 
If I reduce my HT, it's not HTT in my BIOS, to 3X will that slow the system down to much? Or is it worth it if I can move from 2.4 to 2.8GHz?

CCityInstaller, that's what I thought. I still can't find Zebo's memory timing post, but I seem to recall he said that faster GHz was better and RAM timings meant nothing (besides 1T) when talking about A64's

If you're able to move your overclock from 2.4 to 2.42, then it will completely make up for lowering your total HTT. Lowering your total HTT is what happens when you lower your HT multiplier, without raising your HTT very far. I.E., 200x5=1000, 225x4=900, so you have a lower HTT, which will seriously outperform 200x5. Capiche?
 
Anything above 700 is fine, you will see next to nothing as to performance loss, as the mem controller is on the cpu.
