Overclock.net death threats to blogger

Ah...the internet. You just have to love the tough-guy cheat beating. I can't imagine how pathetic you have to be to make a death threat over an opinion about lapping.

I don't know that I'd take it as far as he is, but I don't blame him for making examples of them.

Ive a friend who laped his E8400 and said that it ran much coler. But thats not the point. What the overclocknet people said was realy dumb. Im surprised that the mods there havent taken that down.

I lapped my 1st Q6600 and didn't have a problem with it. Just followed some simple rules and took my time. It worked well. As overclock.net stated about they're 1st amendment rights, is all and well but sometimes I think they are just shooting out the mouth as well as the death threats that they are receiving. The 1st amendment can also apply to anyone who wants to lap thier cpu, overclock their cpu....can.

I dont understand. I thougth that overclocknet was making the death threts against this Hal.

To my knowledge here in the USA making death threats is not an actionable offense unless they are specifically in reference to the President of the USA. It likely varies by state though.

This really should be in OT I think. I will consult the "mod gods" and if they agree, this will be moved to OT.

First off death threats for saying lapping is wrong...wtf seriously people what is wrong with you

second off...when was the last time anything was taken seriously on the internet

i really hope he loses not because i think the people at overclock.net are right but if he get charges pressed then it leads to a lawsuit which would set a precedent that might eventually lead to "i'm suing you for calling me a r-tard on the internet"

Guy's a fucking bitch. No one is actually going to kill him and the comments he referenced were not even remotely serious.

I doubt the trheats were directed at him for his belief as much as for his nasty and provacative insults, which probably instigated the whole thing. The writer was obviously out looking for a fight, and pushing peoples buttons until he got one. Here are just the first two paragraphs of his post:

"Of all the incredibly stupid things people do to their CPUs, including overclocking them until they are hot enough to melt steel, the single most imbecilic modification has to be lapping. Using absurdly skewed logic and completely unsupported data, lappers believe that by physically grinding down the surfaces of their CPUs to make them flatter and gain better contact with the similarly lapped surfaces of their heatsink fan cooler assembly they will lower their operating temperatures up to 20 degrees C.

The miraculous advantages of lapping are evangelized by the same sort of online loonies who believe that Microsoft and AOL are giving away merchandise and cash just for forwarding an email message, three triangulated cell phones can pop popcorn kernels, and that Barack Obama was sworn into his Senatorial office with his hand on the Koran."

So in the first two paragrapghs he calls overclockers incredibly stupid. He then refers to lappers as imbecilic, absurdly skewed thinkers, and online loonies. After he pushes people to the point of threatening him, he suddenly takes the poise of a defenseless victim whose only option to defend his safety is to call the police.

Certainly, the death trhreats were over reactions and innapropriate, but this guy looks to have manipulated the situation into exactly the circumstances he wanted in order to feed his need for attention and compensate for a badly wounded ego.

They were probably too young to remember thunderbirds. Even so one should be placed in their pants and powered up.

I'm going to kill you for posting a thread with a poorly written title. I'm going to eat your liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti.

Not really, but you might wake up in a bathtub full of ice with an incision in the vicinity of one of your kidneys.

I do, and I can do something about it. See this big red button? It has your name on it. It was just pressed.

Not that it matters in the context of this thread since this all happened in Canada, but I don't think that's true. "Making a terrorist threat" (a.k.a. "making a criminal threat" since people assume that the old name referred to 9/11-type terrorism and get their panties in a wad when these laws that existed long before 9/11 are used for their intended purpose) is state law territory, but it's probably illegal in most or all states.
