overclock iMac

Ok, so this cat clock-chips his iBook/500 and doubles performance.

How would I change the processor and bus speed of my LCD iMac?

Every Apple computer attempted has been overclocked to my knowledge.

The iMac in particular is a consumer machine with the processor and bus speeds killed to cut cost.

It is quite possible, yet clear that you have not the technical expertise or the willingness to help.

If you are sooo full of Mac O/C knowledge, why don't you feck off and do it, rather than get pissed at a predominantly PC based forum when they laugh their asses off?

AFAIK Jumpers allow the bus speed to be modified on G4's(correct, no knowledge on iMac), so you'll have to crack your lampshade of a computer open and hope they silk screened all the detail on the mobo.
 
Jumpers are for the more recent Power Macs, the iMac would require soldering.
If you are sooo full of Mac O/C knowledge, why don't you feck off and do it, rather than get pissed at a predominantly PC based forum when they laugh their asses off?

I was hoping these people were fans of technology and had the maturity not to platform war. Mac and PC motherboards look the same, it's the same sort of technology; they probably could have helped at least with general info.

Unfortunately most will see a Mac poster as fair game, and really so did I. Just a bit of Platform related sport if you like. However, I am not a Mac hater, in fact I have quite extensive Mac experience, just not in the last 3 years.

Hope you don't take it to heart, was only meant for fun.

You want general info? Here it is. Clockspeed is determined by the chip's multiplier and its FSB (multiplier x FSB = clockspeed). Therefore you can overclock your chip by either increasing its FSB or multiplier (or both). It is not possible to adjust the multiplier on P4 chips. It can be done on AMD chips, but only after you physically modify the chip. I rather doubt it can be done at all on iMacs. This leaves with the FSB. If your BIOS allows for FSB adjustments, then you've got it made. Otherwise, you'll have to hope that the motherboard has some sort of jumper-FSB adjustment. Otherwise, your only hope wouldbe some sort motherboard mod which would probably be beyond the technical abilities of even most enthusiasts. Good luck with your OC, and if it works, let us know what you did and how it increased your performance.
 
Just for the record, I overclocked a Mac. It was an older G3, but it was just a simple jumper switch. I seem to recall seeing someone who had OC'd his iBook, but IIRC he had to tweak the mobo with an iron. Check xlr8yourmac.
