Overclock E2200 to 3GHZ or just get E5200 stock.

Hi. I'm building a budget (400$) system to play WoW with WotLK only.
The question is, should I get an E2200 and overclock to 3.0ghz, or just buy a stock E5200?
The difference right now is 23 dollars. I'd like to go with saving the most money. Is this a reasonable deal? The rest of the system will be 4GB Gskill, 500gb harddrive, onboard sound, and probably an ati 4850.

Get the E5200 as it is 45nm and the cache usage in the 45nm versions is more optimized than the 65nm versions. For example the E7xxx (3mb L2) series is faster than the old E6xxx (4mb L2) series. Other benefits are that it will run cooler draw less power and will most definitely over clock better than the E2200

What mobo are you planning on using? Reason I ask is, if you pick the E5200, make sure the shipping bios can handle the 45nm CPU right out of the box.

Neither. Get the E5200 and then OC that. It's not much more expensive than the E2200 (on Newegg, at least), is a 45nm chip, has double the L2 cache, and will most likely OC better.

I don't trust a man who doesn't oc their c2d. Def overclock that E5200, even if it's just a little bit.

WoW with WoTLK will run fine on either, so go whichever way you wish. The OC'ed e5200 is a better option but you will not notice a difference in WoW. I have to run my e7200 down around 2.0GHz before I start seeing slower FPS than my usual 58-60. So I'd think an e5200 or e2xxx at 2.5ish GHz would be fine for a perfectly playable game in WoW.

my e2200 tops out @ 2.75GHz @ 1.4v in the bios so the e5200 will be better than the e2200 for ocing

If you can afford it, go E5200.

I have the Celery E1200, & it maxes out around 3216 MHz...i run 3 GHz lower voltage 24/7 though.

You'll get a better OC from the E5200 than the E2200 more than likely.

Wow, my old e2180 oc'd to 3.2ghz without even trying using the stock cooler on 1.375v

the e5200 will get a max of about 3ghz on the default voltage, but with vcore increase will do better, I just had mine running at 3584mhz, but they do not run cool temps
at 1.37v and that speed when maxed out, try 67 C with a Zalman 7000cu on it.
I am getting a Xigmatek hdt-sd964 later this week, should get temps back into the 50's, also is Summer here, tomorrow 34C expected, ouch!

Yeah, I OCed a E2200 in a friend's IP35-E, could only get it to 3.1Ghz, barely. Whereas I had no problem getting my two E2140s (must have been twins out of the same batch, because they overclock the same) to 3.2Ghz.

I replaced the E2200 with an E5200, and now it's running strong at 3.75Ghz, with 1.4v (actual, CPU-Z under load). Had to set the BIOS to 1.425v something. Very little vdroop with 45nm chips with BIOS 18 on the IP35-E. I was surprised. (My GA-P35-DS3R v1.0 has more vdroop)

Sorry to bring this old topic back.

I bought HP a6600f for $240 and it has E2200 CPU with motherboard based on Nvidia 630i cheap with 3gb(2gb and 1gb dimms). I can upgrade to HP a6667c model for an additional $100 that has G33 cheap 1gb memory more and E5200 CPU 4gb memory dual channel.

I want to add this:
For $100 I'll get
a6600f --- a6667c
HD 320gb --- 500gb
ram 3gb(2 and 1 --- 4(4x1gb) expandable to 8gb nax
dimms -
total 2 dimms
4gb max)
CPU E2200 --- E5200

Do you guys think it's worth it?

Thanks
