Overclock E2180 or upgrade...or both?

Should I just OC and forget about C2D or spend some $ for faster base CPU?

Your e2180 IS a Core2Duo design. See if you can get 3.33GZHz out of it; if not, stick with 3GHz.

Overclock, but don't go over on the voltage too much. I wouldn't do more than like, 1.4 volts.

edit: assuming your cooler can handle the heat. Mine got to 60C and I decided to stop there. I'm at 2.83 with an E4300.

At least use it to make sure you've flashed to a firmware the supports the 45nm Core 2s, because if you do OC it you're probably not going to do much better with a C2D unless you go with something like an E8400.

Seriously, I'm right at 3GHz prime stable with the stock cooler and I haven't even touched the voltage with an E2160 I'm playing with before I give it to my parents.
