Never heard of such a thing, only possiblility might be a firmware upgrade........ but i doubt it.......

I wouldn't wanna try anything funny on those burner...coz if u write important data to it...only to find out tht "coaster", data corruption & etc...u will be kickin ur self. :D

I woludn't trust overclocking a CDR much less an older one. CDR technology has improved a lot and a new one might be able to hack it, but older ones ...

I just bought an LG brand GCE 8160b 16x10x40x RW drive for $100 and a $20 rebate (making it $80) at Best Buy. Maybe you should check them out.

I can upgrade my old HP from 4x to 8x! I'll give it a shot and see if it works and post a note. Worst I can do is ruin the drive, but I'm not too worried, I have a Plextor 24x as well.
