OverBurning CD-Rs

Hello
Does anyone have any experience with OverBurning CD-Rs?
How much can a 74min & an 80min Cd be overburnt?
I have the Teac CD-W54E, Firmware 1.1b and have just got Nero 4.0.9.1

It depends on the media and the burner(not all burners can do it). Usually you won't have to overburn-use a 80 min cd instead.

Why don't you upgrade Nero to the latest version. I usually onverburns my 80 min cd to 702 mb with my plextor. I haven't dared go higher.

download CDRidentifier (CDRid) from the download section. this tells you how much you CAN overburn above that 650 or 700 MB.

from my experience, it's around 656 for the 650 MB, and 703 for the 700MB ones.

CDR identifier doesn't tell you the maximum overburn capacity - it simply states the maximum 'real' capacity of the disc. For 74 min CDs, this can be up to 74m50s. Overburning is burning past this point.

Typically you can overburn over 77 minutes onto a 74 min CD but the last couple of minutes are pretty dodgy in terms of quality. They can't always be read by by CD-ROM drives/stereos because the data is too close to the edge of the disc.

Another interesting titbit about CDR-ID:

The capacity of 80 min CD-Rs is always listed as 79:59:74. This is not necessarily the manufactures intended capacity, but a limitation of how the space is recorded on the CD. The 'tens' digit of the 'minutes' number cannot be more than '7'.
