😕 i have just brought a new pc. specs below may be to much info but don't know what will help to get me help (if u know what i mean).

- AMD Athlon 64 4000 (Socket 939) Dual DDR400 CPU
- AMD Approved Cooler
- DFI LanParty Ultra-D nForce4 Ultra Dual Channel PCI-Express Motherboard
- Crucial 1GB (2x512MB) DDR BALLISTIX PC4000 CAS2.0 Dual Channel Kit
- 300GB Maxtor DiamondMax Plus10 16mb cache SATA 150 Hard Drive
- Leadtek GeForce 6800 Ultra 256MB DDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card
- NEC ND3540 16x 16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter Black
- Creative Sound Blaster Audigy ZS 7.1 Sound Card
- Black floppy drive
- Coolermaster Black WaveMaster Case
- Enermax 600W ATX2.0 SLi Compliant Power Supply
- Metal Braided Rounded Floppy Cable (0.5m)

i have upgraded to 2GB ddr

i have check out a few sites and i seem to be running very hot temps as follows

as smartguardian tells me cpu 46-48c, pwmic (havn't a clue what that is)47c chipset 46-48 c. is this dangerus as i have seen others talk about cpu temps of 10-20c.

this pc is only 3weeks old
 
A little hot, but not dangerous, unless they get worse. I wouldn't OC it though.

What HSF are you using on your CPU? How is your case ventilation? A hot system like that needs atleast 2 case fans.

Is smartguardian a hardware temp monitor? If it is, the "pwmic" may be it's temp. Otherwise, I dunno what it is... Try googling it.

the CPU is a bit warm

PWM area is the voltage regulators for the CPU and thats guaranteed for atleast 110c so your definatly good

chipset is ok, but could be better. you can always move your video card to the secound slot (be sure to switch jumpers to SLI mode) and this will allow your chipset to breath easier as it wont be sucking air right outta the video card. I did it and noticed a drop 🙂

Wont that mean that you are running your graphics card at PCI-E x8?! Wouldn't that drop your performance a fair bit?!

contrary to popular belief, the extra available speed of pci-e is not used by current video cards.. agp 8x is not even close to being the limiting factor in video card bandwidth

 
i have 2 input and 2output fans both seem to be running fine

A little hot? Are you smoking crack!?!?! Those temps are great, skybluehuw. You should be running in the 50's under full load. You have plenty of room to work with if you want to OC as well. Not sure what planet Rod is getting his PC's from, but it must be pluto because 48c is NOT HOT!!!!!

I dont think that was full load, but rather idle

 
Let's put it this way....my CPU now urns hotter since I changed 2-->4 function/sec in the BIOS. Idles at 63, load at about 78. Your temps are fine. 😉

It was idle, havn't tried pushing it because of temps
 
No offense, but dude?! Please...!!!! Your temps are 100% fine for idle!!!! That is perfect. Anyone with standard cooling that says they are running in the 30C range idle is a complete lier! Too many people on these boards post inaccurate temps. For the A64's, high 40's idle high fifties load, is considered extremely normal!!!!!! If you don't believe me, call up any PC manufacturer that knows anything about temps and ask them your-self. You are fine!!!

Now, please know that temp is not the be all and end all of OCing. So, if you plan on OC'ing do so with extreme caution no matter your temps. I personally don't overclock my CPU and I don't recommend it either, but only because I can't afford buying a new one if I screw it up🙂
 
yup.. those who claim to have 30C.. i don't usually trust them unless they put up some temp sensors in their system..
 
I think your temps are more than fine considering your hardware.

I have an A64 3200 with a 3rd party cooler (nothing major, $20 hsf) and according to speedfan my cpu is 40c idle and i've never seen it go above 42c. Case is 33c. I don't have any case fans running, but my case is half way open. Just tried another program, Everest. It reports mobo @ 34c and Aux (whatever that is.. I assume cpu) @ 40c. I don't have any pci devices currently, just 2 hdd's and a 9800pro w/ VGA Silencer. You have a lot more in there..

Sorry, but this is wrong! The temperature you are siting is the maximum AMBIENT temp (the temperature of your case) that the processor will function within for the AMD processor. If you don't believe me, go to AMD's website and look it up, CAREFULLY. No offense, but I hate seeing this crap on the forums, because it gives people false information. For the ACTUAL temp max your CPU can go and still function, here is an excerpt from AMD's website:

"The operating temperature of a system or processor is highly dependent on the characteristics of the system as a whole and the combination of components that make up the system. Consequently, the "normal" operating temperature will vary from system to system, depending on each system's make-up. Some of the variables that affect the operating temperature of a system are: case size, air flow characteristics, installed components, processor speed, processor heatsink/fan solution, thermal interface material, power supply, voltage settings, workload, and ambient air temperature.

Although "normal" operating temperatures are not specified for AMD processors, there are maximum operating temperature ratings that must not be exceeded. The maximum operating temperature of a processor may be determined by the processor's Ordering Part Number (OPN). Refer to the processor's data sheet for additional information (data sheets may be downloaded from the Technical Documents page). Typically, the maximum operating temperatures for Socket A AMD Athlon? and AMD Duron? desktop processors are 90 degrees Celsius for processors operating up to 1GHz, and 95 degrees Celsius for processors operating above 1GHz."


So, the temp depends on your processor and the general guideline is listed above. Of course, the max temp is something you do not want to even get close to with your processor, but this illustrates the point I am trying to make in that your temps are absolutely fine!!!! Thank you.

Looks like it's a prebuilt system. Also copied/pasted directly from here (the bottom). So I assume he doesn't know about this kind of stuff....or maybe it is all shens 😕
