Over 2 months since new "Official" Nvidia drivers. What's the problem??

It has been over 2 months since any "official" drivers from Nvidia. But there has been about 10 supposedly "leaked beta" drivers, most of which cause as many problems as they fix. This is ridiculous. People say "Nvidia has the greatest driver team", well guess what? That's complete Bullsh*t. The original Detonator 3's sucked, and they have been trying to fix all the problems they caused ever since then. They increased speed, but decreased stability, and were full of bugs. And on top of that, most of the beta drivers since then have actually DECREASED performance slightly. I am sick of crappy drivers for my GeForce2 card. What they do is RUSH their drivers out the door because other cards are catching up and even beating them in some cases. Sorry people, but that is NOT good driver support. I would rather have quality then quantity. And this from the "Greatest driver team"???. Yeah right!!!!!!

I think thats a pretty bad assumption.

NVidias drivers are only meant for the OEM/developer market. The individual card makers are supposed to update and release new drivers.

A few weeks after 6.47 came out 7.17 came out. They are probably working on fixing/improving DX8 problems.

6.31 was an excellent driver set I had a small stability issue in OGL and that was about it. Other than that it was great.

I'm not sure what to make of you guys. You either want

A) NVidia drivers every other week so you can bash them and claim they use the US as beta testers
B) Not get drivers and then whine about no new drivers.

Get a clue and make up your minds. I believe BB already stated that they are tightening there belt when it comes to drivers. Hence no new drivers for a while. Its why we suddenly get sparadic releases of drivers. Some guy starts to get em then starts to leak them. They probably catch the guy in the end and cut off his source.

Regardless of what the situation is. Make up your minds on what you want. Dont whine about it.

Personally, I don't mind a little instability at the cost of performance. That's the price you pay using the latest leaked drivers.

Win2k has been out for almost a year now and none of the other companies have developed a decent driver for it. Nvidia had drivers for it BEFORE win2k was offically released.

Thats crappy driver support right genuis?

Nvidia's wonderful driver support is a myth. They have the most buggy and most unstable drivers I have ever seen. You are right when you use the word brainwashed. Nvidia markets to young kids who don't know any better, and they just look at benchmarks. Nvidia knows this and they purposely focus on it, while trying to hide the terrible quality of their drivers. It's time people start to realize that Nvidia is nothing but hype. They make poor quality cards and poor quality drivers. They look good on paper and in benchmarks, but they suck in real world gaming.

Get a life man. IF you don't like your card, sell it and get a card that suits YOU. IS that too hard?

lsd, the 5500 has excellent Win2k drivers now.

The 1.04's w/DX8 installed on Win2k makes the difference between Win2k and Win98 almost neglible.

3dfx had WHQL-certified ROCK STABLE DX8 drivers ready for release the day DX8 was released almost a month ago.

BTW, how's those nvidia DX8 drivers coming along?

You sure you're not talking about ATi?

Low but true hes not as obvious as Hardware but almost every single post he makes is something negative about NVidia.

Finality, I was responding directly to lsd's little dig.

and I wasn't being negative, just realistic. lsd was busting on all the other company's for their "lack of win2k support", when in fact, nvidia is still trying to get a decent DX8 driver out

sorry if you took it so hard. but I only post "negativity" in response to "negativity"

and I challenge you to find anywhere where I'm being unrealistic or just plain trolling, like Hardware does.

The GTS is a kickass card. I know, I've had 2 of them. <G>

I just get annoyed when people make very inaccurate statements, so I correct them with a bit of "pizzazz" :D

y'know what I mean, jellybean?

No you're not the only one. I use a gts and haven't had a single problem with any driver release. I think the vast majority of problems are caused by conflicts or failure to install motherboard drivers.

3dfx got their DX8 drivers out so quick because they support THE LEAST DX8 features out of the Voodoo 5, Radeon, and Geforce 2.

my computer is the king the stability - oddly...
check this out - it used to give me some MAJOR stability issues everywhere
until i installed the aureal vortex 2 reference drivers (for my mx300 card)...
now, i'll be lucky if i can crash my system....i've never had a system to stable...
i miss having to fix stuff....trying to remedy crashes and such...
maybe i'll invest in a new unstable system some time.

Doom, one of the BIGGEST problems is that DX8 supports PROGRAMMABLE T&L. The GTS and Radeon support the hardwired stuff.

Big difference.

robotech isn't the new hardware for 3dfx. he hasn't started posting random foreign language reviews yet

I think one of the biggest mistakes some people make is that they just install nVidia's reference drivers over older/newer versions without uninstalling the current set they're using. nVidia recommends uninstalling the old drivers in their readme file, but few take the time do it. My system has been stable using the 5.22, 6.18, and 6.31 set of drivers. It isn't nVidia's drivers that are the problem; it's inexperienced users and/or the $hit hardware they're using. Oh, notice I only use OFFICIAL DRIVERS. That should tell you something else.

<< nvidia is still trying to get a decent DX8 driver out >>

So nvidia has marred driver supoort because they can't produce a driver for an api which is not supported yet?
An api and a major OS are two vastly different things.
The 1.04.00 driver was release last month.

I do recall Win2k being offically release sometime before that..

Please do tell me how my statement was inaccurate..

So nvidia has marred driver supoort because they can't produce a driver for an api which is not supported yet?

since when has something that was "unsupported" prevented them from p1mping it like it was going out of style? <coughT&Lcough>

Please do tell me how my statement was inaccurate..

how about this one:

"Win2k has been out for almost a year now and none of the other companies have developed a decent driver for it. "

that was the point I was trying to make. 3dfx has a Win2k driver out that gives almost no framerate loss (anand's own V4 review said as much), and it is DX8/WHQL-certified

so although nvidia has EXCELLENT Win2k drivers, they aren't the ONLY ones out with them.

The Radeon is still hurting for Win2k drivers

on a separate note, nvidia is still far and away the 3d performance king in Linux until 3dfx figures out a way to get the 5500 to run in SLI mode in Linux, but hey, 3dfx has the Apple-MAC crown! WH000000000T!!!!!! :D

<SIGHHHHH>

I don't know why I let myself get drawn into this. I think the GTS is an absolutely ass-kickin' card. I have used and enjoyed nvidia's cards for 3 out of the last 4 generations. the 5500 is the first 3dfx card that resided in my main gaming box in, like, well....since the V2-SLI rig I had was replaced by the TNT2U.

and it was about 3 days ago I was posting somewhere, arguing with a 3dfx zealot who was posting stupid $hit about the GTS's "poor" 3d-image quality. I ended up getting an email reply that said I was "an nvidiot"

ROFL!!!!

I just love this stuff. :);):D:p:):D;):p

"Devil's Advocate, thy name is RoboTECH"

hehehe.... :);):D:p:):D;):p

Compellor,to be honest I actually install the latest official drivers over the old ones with no problems(Nvidia drivers),I think some owners get problems because they change over from ASUS,Creative drivers etc, to Nvidia & forget to uninstall the Brand drivers before installing Nvidia reference drivers.

:)

I own a GTS and have always used the "beta" drivers. The last ones I have installed are the 6.47, but I installed everything before that. I have never had any stability issues or games that won't run. Maybe I am just lucky...
