The Cass County Sheriff?s office along with the Berrien County Animal Control department investigated a complaint of animal cruelty at a home in Howard Township on Wednesday.

Over one hundred cats were found at the location. Officers removed 85 live cats from the residents along with 2 dogs.

Officers also removed 30 deceased and frozen cats.

"The owner of these animals was cooperative in allowing authorities to initially look at the animals within the residence", stated Patrick Fetherston, Cass County Animal Control Director. "Following that initial walkthrough, a search warrant was obtained to seize the live and deceased animals within the residence and on the premises", Fetherston said. "A veterinarian examined approximately 67 of the animals on site", Fetherston continued.

The owner, a 59 year-old woman, was arrested on a preliminary charge of cruelty to animals and is free on bond awaiting arraignment in Forth District Court.

The Cass County Animal Control office said the investigation is still continuing.

That would mean the 30 frozen ones are included in the "over 100" statement.

My eyes bugged out for a second... I live in Cass County, it's just in a different state :p

Still pretty horrible, though.

Nah, guys just get sick of cleaning up the droppings of more than ~2 animals. You never hear about the "crazy dog guy" either.

We had an animal hoarder in a neighboring town. She hoarded rabbits. After having the rabbits seized and being released on bail, she broke into the facility housing the bunnies, stole them back, and ran out of state with them. She was re-apprehended and the animals taken again. While out of jail, she was found yet again with rabbits at her house.

Edit: she was also found with a deep freezer full of dead animals.

I thought my dad was bad, he has 6 cats in the house and 6 that live in the 3/4 room that go out side everyday (weather permitting) for few hours.

but a few of the 3/4 room cats don't want to go outside much lately becuase the wild turkeys chase them ( he lives in a very rural area) those turkeys never leave the yard almost now, they like it there, plenty of food, cover and they feel safe there

ya the boss hen is very big and can be aggressive
the cats that get there butt kicked are the younger more aggressive male's they just can't stop stalking them, the older females cats aren't afraid of the turkeys becuse they just keep there distance. these cats are spoiled and they act like they can fight but it's all bluff.
heck a few sand hill cranes set one of the younger tom cat screaming for the house earlier this summer. luckily no fox, coyotes, or owls have gotten any of the cats, well that's why they must come in for role call about one hour before dark every day, they not allowed outside when it's dark

See my post above. We had a crazy rabbit lady who got busted here. You hear about people with too many horses that are starving to death and mangy pretty often too. Dog hoarders are common too.
