Why exactly does an oven start with the setting "0"? What, are you going to cook that food at zero degrees? What about 50 degrees? Who cooks food at 50 degrees? You? God dammit you're stupid. If you cook your food at zero degrees, does it make it colder? NO.

Why the hell do ovens start at anything less than 100 degrees?

I've seen them! I swear to you I've seen them. Girlfriend works in a kitchen, their ovens start at zero degrees.

Aren't all women supposed to work in a kitchen?

when I make pancakes for breakfast, I put the oven on the lowest (dunno what, doesnt start at 0 though). I then keep the pancakes in there after they cook to keep them warm.

I like it.

Because the lower temps are used sometimes to maintain a holding temperature before something is served. A setting at 100 degrees could also be for cooling something slower than it would at room temperature (some dishes can "break" if their temperature changes too rapidly). You can also cook stuff at 200 degrees over 5 hours or so to make the meat tender.

Maybe expensive/commercial ovens are like sports cars. The speed-O-meters go past 130MPH, and the temp guages go below 250 degrees.

I don't know about you, but I'd consider 200 degrees a little more than "Warm"
