Oven door (Super Capacity 465) won't go back on

This happened once before and I was able to get it back on, but I forgot what I did. It's pretty obvious from page 12 of the manual what to do but the problem is that only one hinge has a little hole for propping it open with a nail. The other doesn't. Anybody? Bueller?

so why can't you use just one? It's only there to get it lined up so you can put it on at the right angle.

I can't get the other side to latch on properly. It would be sooo easy if the other side could be propped open too.

shove a nail into the slot that bracket sits in to keep from retracting back into the slot. You'll probably have to do it to both sides so they are at the same angle when you try to put the door on.

It's difficult to get anything big enough in there to match angles w/ the other side. 🙁

I guess you could use a long screw driver, but you'll be trying to align the door onto the pegs at the same time you are holding the door and playing with the screw driver to get the right angle.

Maybe it is time to fabricate something to fit into the slot (maybe a yardstick?) or drill another hole. By the instructions it is supposed to have holes on each side.

How about wedging a wooden or plastic shim in between the hinge without the nail hole and the side of the overn door? That should be able to hold it in the correct position long enough to place the door back on the hangers.

I had the exact same problem. The trick is to put on a pair of shoes. Once you have the good hinge on, use your heel to extend the "nail-less" hinge out and latch it into place. It helped to have someone assist me.

Prop one hinge open with a nail, hold the other one open with one hand, use your other hand to hold the door and slide it on, perhaps using your leg and elbow to brace the door? What are you, Rick Allen?

That's an interesting idea. I'll have to give it a try. I was also thinking of making a shim out of some card stock: as thick as I need and mushy enough that it won't slip out of place at the wrong time.

I value my fingers. The hinge has a wicked spring which could result in a crushed, useless finger or two.

BTW, I don't know who this "Rick Allen" is.

Doesn't matter. You're Franz Liszt now.

Eh? The composer / pianist?

So aha! I really leaned into it tonight and could see there IS a hole on the other side but the spring is so much tighter I couldn't get it open. A third hand is about to help out and this should be a wrap.

This is a totally wierd set-up to me. A nail in the hole to hold the hinge? WTF Whirlpool?

Glad to hear you've got some help. I was going to suggest a pair of vice-grips to hold the hinge in the extended position, but it makes sense that there's a "hole" in the other side as well.
