Chances are the diffuser is clogged with crapo. That's what happened with mine. Either that or the pilot light is out. Do you smell gas?

No, it's got an igniter. The weird thing is I don't smell gas when I turn the oven on but the broiler works (also gas).

99% sure its a clogged diffuser (big metal piece with holes in it where the holes are clogged with goop)

The same thing happened to us a few months ago. The part you need replaced is called a Glow Bar. It's basically the igniter. This is connected in series to the gas valve which doesn't open unless a specific amount of resistance in the glow bar is detected. This is why you're not smelling any gas.
I changed it myself, it was about a $30 part and took about an hour to do if you're handy. If you know the model number of your stove, you should be able to google the part you need.

The back panel is all scratched up, there are a few nicks in the enamel and the drip pans for the burners look horrible. Basically, the previous owner trashed this stove so it's going away this week. I'd rather buy a new one than put money into keeping this one going.

Yeah, when ours went out I comtemplated replacing ours too. It's a kenmoore and doesn't have the sealed burners, and the wife really wants a new stove. But since the repair was minimal, I talked myself out of it. maybe if it goes out again, I'll replace it.

I already replaced the dishwasher (which was a cheap assed builders special also) with a stainless model so now the oven will match the dishwasher. We're getting a new microwave and refrigerator too. Our microwave has no handle, the light doesn't work and the fan is noisy as hell so it will be nice to get rid of that too.

Are you sure about that? Electric is much better in the oven where dry even heat is best. Gas may be better for the stove but electric is where it's at in the oven.

I don't tend to think range/oven as independent units. As I do most of my cooking on the range, I generally don't care about the oven.

Yeah. We replaced our dryer a few months ago and our dishwasher about a year ago (it was leaking around the door seal). When we replaced the dishwasher I got a great deal on a stainless model with the intention of replacing the stove/microwave and refrigerator. This was the catalyst I guess.

nice stove

we replaced our cheap magic chef stove last year with a Kenmore Dual-Fuel. the oven is electric convection and the range is gas with 5 elements and the grates on the range make a flat surface so its really easy to slide pots full of hot water to a smaller element.

i love the big ass burner on the range, it sounds like a flame thrower when its on high, and the smallest burner is awesome for low flame becuase it keeps the stuff in the pot warm but doesnt cook it, like a sterno fuel can.

oh, i love the oven door window, our old POS magic chef did not have a window in the oven door, i think its cool to watch biscuits cook and get all toasty brown. 🙂

I really like how they look. we got one (and dishwasher at the same time) wish now i had got the dishwasher stainless also.
