Anyone have any ideas? It doesn't work on bake but the broiler will come on and the stovetop burners work fine.

Is it time to get a new one? This one is 14 years old and is the typical cheap builders special. It kind of looks like ass anyway and we've been thinking about upgrading for a couple years now.

Update-We're getting this to replace our old stove.

It will be delivered tomorrow along with a new microwave oven and refrigerator.

Time for a new one. The delivery folks will hook it up for you and you can ask them to test it before leaving. Tip em.

No, it's got an igniter. The weird thing is I don't smell gas when I turn the oven on but the broiler works (also gas).

no heat == no fire in a gas oven

No kidding?

If it is a CONVECTION gas oven, it could be that your convection fan died.

There is no heat whatsoever though. Turn it on at 400F for 20 minutes and it's still room temperature. I don't know if it's convection but I tend to doubt it. Would a $200 builders special gas oven likely be a convection oven?

What did that cost?

I replaced ours about 3-4 years ago, the part was about 75 dollars. It was called Bake Burner Ignitor.

What's the make?

Edit: that price was what sears wanted. Like linflas mentioned at a local parts place will be alot cheaper.

I've had to replace the ignitor twice on our GE oven. IIRC it was around $30.00 for the part from a local parts place. Replacement was pretty simple, remove the pan from the bottom of the oven and remove 2 screws holding the ignitor to the gas rail. The replacement came with ceramic wire nuts and the first time I replaced it I had to cut the exisiting wires.

It's a GE. I should smell gas though if the igniter was the only thing wrong with it.

No the gas doesn't come out until the ignitor heats up to a certain temperature. If it didn't work that way there would be a lot more "booms" in the world.

That what I thought to, but it connects somehow to the valve that lets the gas flow.

Edit; more info on it

Gas ovens are crap, get an electric one.

I hate cooking with electric. Gas is much easier to regulate the temperature.

Thats why we got a gas range electric oven. It bakes extremely well and I love cooking with gas on the cooktop.

This is correct. Most safeguards will check for the presence of spark, hotwire resistance, etc. and if they cannot detect the presence of ignition they will NOT open the gas solenoid.

A service manual and schematic is your best bet to troubleshoot these things. They are actually quite simple. :)

You're an idiot. Gas is highly superior to electric, and anyone who knows how to cook knows this. The solution for you, of course, is to stop using your oven altogether

Fsck it. We're replacing this ugly old range with a new one.

The back panel is all scratched up, there are a few nicks in the enamel and the drip pans for the burners look horrible. Basically, the previous owner trashed this stove so it's going away this week. I'd rather buy a new one than put money into keeping this one going.

We had the same issue with our GE oven. All of sudden it died. It was the ignitor for the bottom part of the oven. Broiler worked fine. Apparently baking too much will do that. We had someone come out to fix it because I had just hurt my back and couldn't bend down but it's VERY easy to fix. You should be able to find the part locally.
