Oveclocking i3 540

Hi,

I have never overclocked before,

My rig - i3 540
2x2gb 1333mhz corsair value ram
HD5770
corsair cx400 power supply

I want to overclock the cpu from 3ghz to around 3.4 ghz ,increasing FSB will overclock both CPU & RAM, is it possible to just overclock the CPU without overclocking the RAM?

Yes.

You change your BCLK to about 160. Then change your RAM multipler from 10X to 8X. Your RAM will run at 1280mhz, which is close enough to 1333mhz to not notice a difference. Or change your BCLK to 166 and that will get you to 1328mhz.

And you might want to change your QPI multipler from 44x to 40x just to avoid any issues.

Ahh the Clarkdale. Would be so badass with a better IMC
