Sweet. This was probably my favorite arcade racing machine when I was a kid.

FEEL THE WIND IN YOUR HAIR AS YOU POWER YOUR WAY ALONG THE HIGHWAYS IN OUTRUN? ONLINE ARCADE

SEGA?s classic arcade racer returns, but this time it?s in stunning HiDef and available via PlayStation® Network and Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®. Developed by acclaimed Sheffield studio Sumo Digital, OutRun Online Arcade, will be available early 2009.

Test your time, speed and handling ability as you race through vibrant, colourful stages and rediscover the 15 glorious OutRun courses. From the steep streets of San Francisco to the beautiful beaches of California, it?s mile after mile of unrelenting acceleration, thrills and action. Feel the kick as you put your foot to the floor in one of the 10 high-performance, fully licensed Ferrari cars as you race your way across the U.S. to a killer soundtrack.

For the first time on PlayStation® Network and Xbox LIVE®, OutRun Online Arcade delivers online multiplayer racing for up to 6 players, with fast paced OutRun, Heart Attack and Time Attack modes, the draw to the open road has never been so appealing. OutRun Online Arcade on Xbox LIVE® will feature achievements and voice; and on PlayStation® Network will include trophies, voice over IP and leaderboards.

Which route will you choose on your drive for the highest possible score?

OutRun Online Arcade will be released on Xbox LIVE® Arcade and PlayStation® Network early 2009.

Looks like Outrun 2: Coast to Coast with some tweaks which is fine by me since I don't have my old copy of the game anymore. Plus with online play it'll be better than ever. Day one purchase for sure. Please take advantage of your classic IP's Sega. XBLA and PSN are the perfect places for them.

Apparently this will be exclusive to XBLA in the U.S., not that it matters much to savvy PS3 users.

Link

Outrun Online Arcade will not be released on the PlayStation Network in North America, Sega has confirmed to CVG.

Instead the colourful update will opt for Xbox Live Arcade exclusivity in the US, while the Europe will receive both PSN and XBLA versions as planned.

...

It's not all bad news for our PS3-owning US cousins though, because as we all know accessing the European PlayStation Store is as easy as fiddling with a few profile options.

Holy crap, for $30 that collection is amazing. Hell, $30 just for the Phantasy Star games would be incredible. I'm definitely picking that up.

Sweet!! I have the old Outrun 2 for XBOX and it plays fine on the 360 but looks sh*t. Damn fun game. No real driving physics of course but its still a blast to play for fun.

Annoying that PS3 users have to jump through extra hoops to get it.

Although after watching the video, I won't be getting it anyways. Can't stand racing games where you are sideways more than you are driving forwards.

I wish Treasure would release Guardian Heroes on PSN. I loved that game.

Can't visit the website from work, is it for PS3 or the 360?

Hmm, will it support local multiplayer? All these racing games that are Live-only multiplayer piss me off. Live is great, but I might want to race someone else that's in my living room!

Heh, I used to play Congo Bongo in the arcades when I was a kid. It was pretty much a platformer from an isometric viewpoint that had a monkey that threw coconuts at you. Very classic 80s arcade stuff.

That really is a steal for $30...downloading all those from XBLA or whatever would cost over $100.

Congo Bongo is ancient. And awesome. Imagine if Qbert and Donkey Kong and Frogger had a threesome which spawned a mutant baby. A mutant baby with super powers. That's Congo Bongo.
