Outpost has the K7S5A and Duron 1.0 deal back for $99 + shipping (now $89)

<< If you go to the B&M Fry's store, I believe they have this deal for 69. >>

Probably so, but the $30 difference between buying it online and buying it at the B&M store wouldn't buy me the plane ticket to a location where there is a Fry's brick-n-mortar, since there aren't any here 😉

The detailed spec listing shows a 950MHz CPU while the title shows 1GHz. I wonder which one's correct.

<< Newegg has the same combo for $97, w/o fan, but a true 1 Ghz. >>

How is the one at outpost not a true 1ghz?

<< If you go to the B&M Fry's store, I believe they have this deal for 69. >>

The SoCal Fry's deal is a 950Mhz Duron and the K7S5A Motherboard for $79.00, good thru 4/26-4/30.

If I remember correctly the receipt breakdown was $34 for the CPU and the Mobo for $45.

Haha, I bought a Antec 830 case and when it arrived the ps was no good. They wouldn't exchange it, I had to go to manufacturer. I sent it to Antec 4 weeks ago and they still won't tell me what is happening with it. I can;t believe Outpoop doesn't stand behind the product they sell. This is a nice price but I am reluctant due to them not accepting ECS mb's back. You have to go thru ECS which then tells you Outpoop is not a certified dealer? WTF??? So you are stuck I guess. BTW, this is what I have read from others who bought ESC mb at OP.

Having purchased this motherboard with the XP1800+ from Outpost, I would suggest that purchasers might want to strongly consider another buy. Unfortunately, I was not aware that this board has a rock- steady- or- dead reputation. It will either work like a charm, or you will suffer my hell. It is highly touchy about the power supply (an AMD approved PS doesn't necessarily work), the memory, the harddrive, the vid card and even the battery. If you have any combination of the previous that the board doesn't like, you will never see a post upon bootup. Some batteries shipped in this unit are DOA.

Unfortunately, Outpost want me buy a new board as a condition for the RMA. Then they say they will charge back my card, "if everything is ok"....uh, no thanks. This deal is so very, very cold....

Please change the title to Duron 950mhz

While outpost may think it is ok to just "round up" I believe the 950's and 1Ghz have different cores?

If I remember correctly, the Gigers have an XP core and the 950's an older thunderbird core?

Probably won't notice the difference unless running certain multimedia apps, but if you are selling apples don't advertise them as oranges.

BTW: I'm running a 1GHZ/ECS K7S5A combo and I'm very happy with it. Best "bang for the buck" out there. Only mistake I made was the HSF (Dr Thermal's POS). If I was to do it again I'd go with the GCS68 from svcompucycle or whatever.

ECS recommends a PS that does at least 20A at 3.3+V. Mine would boot off an Antec 303. When I swithced to an Enhance 350v, no problems since.

I placed an order. Looks like a Duron 1000. I bought the Xp1700 Barebones System for $199 a couple months back, haven't had a problem with it. Course the barebones was shipped up here (Anchorage Alaska) for only $10, but even at $20 shipping, it's better than most places.

maybe they want u to overclock that 950mhz to 1ghz, ya know, fill in the bridges, void the warranty. or may'be they'll send u a 975mhz hybrid...

outpost + fry's = compost

My PS shows 28 at 3.3. Sorry, I am not convinced. I happy received my return authorization for the board and XP 1800+ today. I spend countless hours researching the hundreds of problems this board has, and lived everyone of them for 26 days. Free at last!!! Like I said, this is a hit or miss board. If you get a miss, (and most seem to, according to all I've read) heaven help you.

However, I am still eternally grateful for the 17" Compaq flat screen monitor that I got for 14 dollars during the failed build process!!!

I got this deal a few months back... it was the ECS mb with Duron 950 for $89 bucks. I'm using the board right now and it works perfectly. It is the 4th ECS K7S5A board that I've bought... and they have all worked fine. The extra usb connector from my Asus mb even fit on the ECS! So now I have 4 usb ports =). This is an awesome mb IMO... sound, ethernet, ata100 all work perfectly. I like this mb better than my older Asus A7V.

Only complaint w/ this board is that in order to make the Power LED work, you need to modify the power LED pin on your case. ECS only gave 2 slots on the mb for the pin whereas the pin takes 3. But actually only 2 of the 3 slots are used (the middle slot doesn't have a metal connector -- it's a blank). so all u gotta do is use a paperclip to pull one of them out and push it back into the middle slot (nice trick that my roomate taught me).

Other than that, i think it's a really nice motherboard and a SWEET deal. The mb by itself was selling for around 60 bucks a few months ago.

Tufshop.com actually has this combo, including fan, for $84.94 plus s/h. I ordered a combo from tufshop about an month ago and it has been great. They were a little slow to ship, but they called me at home when the fan was temporarily out of stock....(it shipped within the next 2 days.)

I saw a ad for NorCal Fry's which has this same deal for $69. Don't have the ad with me so I don't know how long the deal's good for.

What I did with the whole LED thing was take the connector and CAREFULLY cut with scissors right down the middle (the blank part). I now have purchased 3 of these boards and 1 of its bigger brother - the K7S6A. *All work great*
