I have now moved from PII 350 MHZ to the blazing 1700 XP!

I am the 80th person on the waiting list for this combo.
CSR said it would ship in ~ 1 week.

BUMP,

no tax to most states (California, Arizona & a couple of others have tax) and free shipping now.
Retail version! Thus comes with heat sink + fan.

I think this deal is hot b/c of total $199 cost. Newegg sells the OEM version w/o heatsink and the ECS K7S5A for > 200 bucks when you factor in the cost of shipping. I am suprised more folks aren't jumping in on this deal. I have been looking for a new MOBO and CPU for > 1 month and this is the hottest one that has come up in the past month.

Just ordered one of these. -Thanks for the find.
I had planned on getting a Soyo Dragon+ w/1600+ XP for $300.
Hey, with the xtra $100 i can get a new HD or Video for 3rd comp.

If you got to the product page at ECS, they have many reviews from various sites. product link

Not as good as some of the higher priced offerings, but decent for the ca$h.

Combo is on back order. I threw in a Netgear PCI ethernet card for 10 buck for good measure.

Any other good deals on Outpost.com that we should throw into our orders to avoid shipping charges on cheaper items when combined with this bigger purchase?????

@#$% I forgot ebates. I ALWAYS DO THAT $hi+... :|

<< They have the Athlon 1900 and Soyo Dragon+ Motherboard for $429 and free shipping.

This is not a BAD price, but it's not something to just rush and grab. Would this be considered a retail or OEM CPU does anyone know?

If it's retail then I might maybe be tempted. It's a lukewarm deal but free shipping and one vendor for both products is convenient...and if it's retail..well...hmmm, I could slap this together from "holes in the wall and" vendors on Pricewatch for $400 plus shipping...hmmm
>>

you can get these 2 items from newegg for about $15 more with shipping...but this way you can use amex blue & hopefully get a nice chuck of change back when the prices drop over the next 60 days

I ordered the 1700+ XP and ECS combo on the 3rd.
I called before ordering and they said the should have the combo back in stock 7-11 days.
Now i just got a e-mail saying it could be up to 30 days.
Cant wait that long, Santa needs to come on by Cristmas.
Canceling order, guess i'll go back to my original plan.
Just a warning for anyone who jumps on this combo.

Mine came today! All I have to do is assemble it, and I'm good to go. Expect 2 boxes (if you ordered the case with it). CPU/MB one box, Case in box #2. Everything looks sweet! Now, do I run 2 pcs, or just swap everything over to the new system? Decisions, decisions :)

Ok

Couple of questions about the cpu/mb/case combo. The athlon instructions said to remove a plastic sticker on the heatsink - mine had no sticker, just a gummy square that I left alone. Square is not plastic. The case has a connector for a power led that has 3 prongs while the mb has only space for a 2 prong connector - no big deal I can live with it. There is a long b&w wire coming off the powersupply, that has a 3 prong connector on it - not sure what this is. There is a flat 6 holed connector coming off the ps - I think its for a diff type of mb and not needed (at least thats what the instructions kind of say about it)

The b&w wire may connect to the mb and control the case fans, but I dont think it does - any guesses on it?

Anyone else putting this together, I'd appreciate hearing about your experiences.

Jack159 I had the same thing, I plugged the power cord in anyway, and it didn't work. No Big deal, I didn't use the black and white one either. I remember finding out what it was to, but I forgot. I'll have to look into it.

I bought this same combo from the Sacramento, Fry's and it has faired well for me. I haven't had a single problem, except it takes a little while to shutdown or restart. My Cpu is running smoothly and the heat has stayed I believe decent without any extra thermal paste. I don't remember the temp. it's supposed to be, but I think 38 degrees Celsius is average. I had 3 other friends that bought the same combo @ the same time and they haven't had any problems either. So I say it's a decent board for those wondering, however we are just 4 instances. I've seen other threads with people that had a few problems, but it looks to be flashing the bios will solve the problems anyway.

Anybody have an idea of how this motherboard is? I was thinking of buying a combo from MWave with the ABIT KG7 board. Only thing there is that the chip is $165 and the board is $124. $289 vs. $229 hmmm.... And, the price that I pull up is $229, not $199. Am I missing something? I know ebates is 2% off, but still.

Yes, people *are* having problems with the K7S5A. And flashing the BIOS is not a fix for everyone. Some folks are even soldering an additional resistor to the board to fix things.

Check out the following K7S5A FAQ thread for more info:

OCWorkbench K7S5A FAQ

When this board works, it's great but when it doesn't it can be a pain. All K7S5A's are not created equally.

I would recommend buying one of these from a place that is good about returns (Fry's is good at this).

I'll probably buy one of these myself and hope that I get a good one. But people should be aware that there can be problems.

Also, someone should update the title of this thread since the $199 deal is not in effect.

Anyone that still wants in on the Athlon 1700+, PM me and I'll send you a screen shot for the item at $199 in my cart. They will priceadjust, when you print it out and fax it to them.

I just built my system from the ECS 1700 +/k7s5a combo. No probs with the board. The chip is runnining at 44 degrees. Sounds a bit hot. :Q

Should I get some thermal paste to cool this thing off????

Kabir2, I PM'ed you.

I'd really like to get this deal for 199. The 229 wouldn't even be that bad if I didn't get stuck for tax.
