don't know pertaining to this deal, but generally yes. there will always be death and taxes. (i never remember who said that though)

for athlon-anything, yes. for duron-anything, no, but still a good idea. very oversimplified answers but to get the gist of it, that's pretty much it. :)

Is that why Outpost had that 100 gig WD hard drive for 199 after MIR?

:(

Still a great deal on the SX830, though. And free shipping over $99...

looks like connecticut is getting hit with tax, as well, although why, I do not know. Anywhere on the site tells which states get taxed?

a big tip of the hat to netsurfer007 for dragging my sorry ass, kicking and screeming into the new millenium. I just upgraded my celery 300a @ 450 (with 250w power supply) to the Athlon 1700+ / ECS K7S5A motherboard combo with that spiffy new Antec ATX SX 830 Case. I may regret this in the morning when I wake up (with a rather large hangover) but BOY do I feel good about it right now... thanks netsurfer!!! :D

mebbe someone knows better than me, but with amd's cpu/heatsink/fan - is it all assembled or am I gonna need some thermal paste?
These CPUs burn out fast without the proper cooling systems....no safe shutdown like the intels...

They have the Athlon 1900 and Soyo Dragon+ Motherboard for $429 and free shipping.

This is not a BAD price, but it's not something to just rush and grab. Would this be considered a retail or OEM CPU does anyone know?

If it's retail then I might maybe be tempted. It's a lukewarm deal but free shipping and one vendor for both products is convenient...and if it's retail..well...hmmm, I could slap this together from "holes in the wall and" vendors on Pricewatch for $400 plus shipping...hmmm

AMD retail cpu's come with the thermal pad installed on the heatsink(you have to clip the heatsink to the processor). You don't need thermal paste unless you want better cooling, in which case you can remove the pad and install some Artic silver thermal paste.

Most important: retaining clip fulcrum point must rest over the cpu die. R.I.P 1 XP 1500:eek: (drops head to computer desk in shame).

Outpost now gets a bookmark next to newegg. Hot news, thanks.:D

The AthlonXP retail box versions have a huge glossy full color step by step instruction foldout. The XP1500 I burned up was an OEM part. It burned up in a matter of seconds . I shredded the fiberglass substrate with a razor knife, there is a copper layer right beneath. I also split the core in half to see what was inside, LOL, I really could'nt see any of the billions of transistors LOL:p

I bought a retail XP1600 to make myself feel better. ;)
