I placed my order....be very careful as 2nd day delivery is default! Make VERY sure and select ground or they get you for $10 plus more...:|

Almost positive it's serial because the only USB ones that I know they have are the upright models which specifically say USB.

I wasn't able to find any mention of this model on APC's Web site; it looks like it might be discontinued, which would explain the low price. I think I might go for it.

I got this, works good. 19" viewsonic flat with a 1.4 scsi system and had plenty of time to shut down.

1 technical question. Can you just plug the UPS in and your computer into it all at the same time, or do you need to charge the batteries before plugging you computer into the UPS?

Also,Do you need to hook up the serial cable?

I believe you have to charge up the unit before first use.
You don't need to connect the serial cable unless you want to use the auto shutdown software

The best part of this deal is that it comes with a great little Phillips screwdriver ! 😀

The rebate is good for purchases through March 31st - and Outpost still has them in stock as I type this - so the deal is still "on".

PS You can plug your computer into it and use it as soon as you have it setup (you have to open the UPS and connect the battery, hence the screwdriver), but the battery has to charge for 4 hours before it can do anything if the power fails.

what's the difference between the Back-UPS ES and the Back-UPS Office? i have a Back-UPS Office 350 that has a dying battery (thing beeps for like a minute every few hours...really annoying) and it seems like this would be the same price as replacing the battery on my current model. this Back-UPS ES 500 looks like it would be an upgrade for me...am i right?
