You can get it for about $5 more at Amazon.com after $50 MIR. I'm a little concerned about these Fry's Outpost.com Seagate with rebate offers. I ordered the 120 GB Seagate on July 31st, and they sent me an email 4 days later:

Thank you for your order! We apologize but the item(s) you
ordered is currently out of stock and we are unable to provide a
definite ship date at this time. However, we continually receive
new merchandise in our warehouse and we hope to fulfill your
order within the next thirty days or sooner if possible.

Assuming they come through I don't know if I will get the $40 rebate. I'm going to call them and ask what's up with that. I presume it will be a similar situation if I order the 200 GB linked above.

Ive been told that Seagate drives are pretty good. What would you guys recommend (Seagate, WD, or Maxtor). Im looking for a 200 or a 250GB. Thanks.:)

If you want a quiet drive, go with the Seagate. I don't use WD anymore because they are so frickin loud...

Seagate drives aren't known for their speed though. It's a bit of a trade off. You likely won't notice the difference though if you are using the drive for storage only.

Seagate since June first, I believe, is now extending a 5 year warranty, which is better than those others. Personally, I'm attracted to the Seagate drives because of their reputation for being very quiet.

I think I have 4 WD drives: 80, 80, 80, 120. The loudest drive I have, though, is a 40 GB IBM Deskstar. That one I'm not even using, it's so loud. Guess I'll put them all in my loud box and use it for games and video processing. I'm going to put two Seagates in my quiet box. It might work out to have a WD in the quiet box if I can configure it to spin down when not in use.

Amazon is now $109 after $50 rebate. $20 more final price and $50 vs. $40 on the rebate roulette table.

I think you can buy it outright for about 113 at buy.com using a coupon, but I've never had luck getting anything from buy.com, it's also 120 at newegg...I found the buy.com deal from techbargains, if anyone wants to look.

I bought a router and later a KVM at buy.com early in 2003, no problems that I recall. Good deals.

The rebate's valid through 8/19, must be postmarked by 9/19. Probably won't have an issue getting the drive within 40 days... might have to pick one up.

I just called Outpost customer service and was told that this 200 GB drive is scheduled to come in in a couple of days, 8/15. So, I ordered one.

The 120 GB drive (which also has a rebate of $40), is scheduled to come in tomorrow. I ordered that one on July 31st. Hope I'll get some peace and quiet with these instead of the 3 WD 80 GB hummers I've got now in my main box. :D

Edit: The CSR said you use the packing slip (copy of) as your purchase receipt. She said that the date ordered is what's honored as purchase date.

Received both my Barracuda 120 and 200 GB drives from Outpost.com yesterday and am ready to send in my rebate forms. Thanks OP, EverydayTreats!

My order is on Backorder. Outpost CSR says the drives are coming in on the 25th. I sure hope they don't try and charge me the "new" price.

Yesterday I ordered the 160, also at Oupost.com, and this comes out the cheapest of the lot. Free shipping with $50 rebate, it comes out at about $0.43/GB, the others a bit over $0.50/GB. Like the other two drives, the rebate's available on a one/customer basis. That'll be 480 GB in the box, double what I'm running now (3x 80 GB WD 800's, 8 MB cache), and they should be a lot quieter.
