Stupid program won't let me have an attachment a friend sent me because it is a .exe file. I requested and need this file. How the hell do I get Outlook to stop "helping" me?

Close Outlook and try OE? And lower Security settings?

i tried lowering the attachment security settings and it didn't help. i had to no idea outlook didn't keep .exe files as attachments until i sent myself one... maybe you can ask your friend to .zip it for you and then send it again? or upload it so you can download it from a server? or create a yahoo account and save it from there? if you get it to work in outlook, tell me how you did it, because i'll be interested in the remedy.

Have your friend rename it using EX_ as the extension. When you receive it, save it as .EXE

I'd suggest renaming the extension as Ray said. We have to do the same thing because our Exchange server's antivirus software strips out .exe's. In fact, it will even strip them out of .zip files! :Q
