Outlook web access?

I'm currently running Outlook XP on laptop, and am wondering if there's a easy way for me to access my Outlook data from other locations (work, travel, other comps, etc). Would this require running an Exchange server, or is there another way around it? Maybe have Outlook web access running on my laptop (and just HTTP in there to view/modify data)?

The only way to use Outlook web access, is if your running an exchange server. It wont work without an exchange server...

And I'm guessing Exchange server must run IIS?

Well, IIS must be running on the same server that Exchange is running on. Im sure there is a way to have a different server host the OWA, but you might as well run it on the same server.

Hrm, not sure how to get IIS and OWA to play nice with Apache, might be tricky.

So basically, aside from getting a USB drive, OWA is the only way to access my Outlook email/contacts/calendar/etc remotely?

If you have a Citrix server, you can use an ICA client to access email. You can also setup a terminal server as well.

Not only do I have no idea what this is, it also sounds expensive :/

i put exchange on my server and it couldn't be easier. The web version of outlook looks identical and performs almost the same as the regular version of outlook 2k3

Same here. Exchange 2003 OWA is a very nice feature. very simple to setup and administer, too.

Citrix and TSE (Term Svr) would only be viable if you mean you need to access your company email.

Nope, just personal email.

Can you run Exchange 2k3 on Windows 2000 pro? My server box is currently running that (and Apache). If I had to run Windows 200* server, I'm not sure how easy it is to get IIS and Apache to work together. I prefer everything to run on this server, cuz it also had RAID mirroring; I don't want to build another box just for Exchange...

Oh, I have lots of POP/IMAP accounts that I check through Outlook - I'm sure Exchange will handle all of this beautifully? And syncing my Outlook client to the Exchange server is pretty smooth once everything gets set up?

Nevermind... I missed part of your post and thought you were already running Exchange... I'm a doofus!
