Hello all,

I am having trouble setting up my email to send/receive. I have cable internet at one location, but am at another location with cable internet (different company) quite a bit. The family I live with has two computers, on a simple home network with one router. I have a recently purchased laptop hooked to this same router that I am trying to set Outlook up on for email purposes mainly.

One of the PCs hooked up here has my email set up in Outlook, and when I test account settings, everything works fine. However, with the exact same settings on my laptop, Outlook does everything fine except send the test email. It says "Unable to send test message". I have tried sending regular email also, no go.

Is there some setting in Windows on my lappy that may not be the same on the PC? All email settings are the same, and it is hooked to the same router.

Thanks for all the help,

Gump

In the settings window, click more settings, click the outgoing server tab, is the "My outgoing server requires authentication" checkbox checked? Try checking it and see if it works.

mugs,

First, thanks for the reply. Yes, it is checked, and the username and pw are filled in just as is instructed by my ISP. That is the weird thing. I have another computer hooked to the same network that sends emails fine, but this one will not, having the exact same settings. I am sure it is something outside of Outlook that needs to be changed, but I don't know where to look.

Thanks again

OK, problem solved. What it was was that I needed to install the Service pack for Office. Just a heads up in case anyone else has this problem.
