Smokey0066, it could be on the ISP's end. Sometimes, when my e-mail server isn't working, I receive weird error messages, but the test e-mail works. Just a thought.

It has to do with settings on the mail server. Relay allows you to send messages to users that do not have mail boxes on the server. Basicly its used to prevent spamming. If you try to send to yourself no relay is needed but if you send to anyone else the server will have to relay the message. Try looking at your Outlook settings to see if you have it set to authenticate when sending. Most mail servers that are administrated properly will force you to authentcate while sending or will only relay for certain ip addresses (usually ones that the assign when you connect). Hope this helps!

hmm.. today without changing any settings i was able to send and recieve okay.. does that mean that it was likely a server problem?

Most likely. If the administrator was playing around with settings on the server that have to do with mail relay then he could have mistakenly killed relay for people that have boxes on his server as well.
