a user told me that she once set up outlook on her laptop to let her check her work email from home, by configuring it as a POP account on the laptop. Is this possible? How can this be done?

thanks!

It is possible if the administrator of the Exchange server has set it up to also act as a POP3 server. You'll need to ask them if you are allowed to connect to the server that way, and to obtain the incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) server names.

That or enable Outlook Web Access.

Yeah OWA through a RSA ID secured portal is probably best way to go. That's how my work has it setup, you enter your token ID then log in with your domain credentials.

If you just want to be able to check if you have new mail you could always forward your work mail to an external account as well.

Careful about that. Such a rule violates many companies IT security policies.

True, I'd check with IT first to be sure. They're the ones that would have to setup the forward anyway (in exchange) unless you were to do a client side one.
