Outlook 2003 clients? Is the exchange server on the network or are you using a 3rd party hosting company?

What are the specs on the exchange server and how many users? Did you use the /3GB switch?

Is it only when you are trying to select messages with huge attachments? That is the only time I've seen that error but it seemed reasonable considering the circumstances.

As many have already stated...I have only seen that problem when the Exchange server hardware couldn't keep up with requests. Exchange 2003 can be really hard on older hardware.

I ran into this issue with remote Outlook 2003 clients. They were on the other side of a VPN tunnel. Upgrading the firmware solved the problem.

Locally on a network, I'd check the utilization of the server. If its heavily loaded, I could see this problme occuring.

One thing to make sure is the exchange server isnt thrashing the disks. If it is hitting the disk it will kill performance.

If I understand your question correctly...yes there is. Open System manager -> Recipients -> Recipient Update Service. There should be 2 settings there and if you right-click -> properties, you can designate which DC that service should use.

If this isn't what you were talking about...then nevermind :)
