Outlook help

I have a .pst I created under Outlook 2K3. I have restored from it before (I overwrite it weekly...it's my backup copy), it's not corrupted, etc.

I loaded up Office XP (Office 2002) with the latest updates (SP3) on another PC and tried to import the .pst.

I get an error message "This .pst is not compatible with this version of office."

WTF? 😕

Is there a workaround? Maybe don't import a .pst, but another type of file?

If it would help, the PC with the .pst on it is perfectly operational; I could Export the .pst as something else?

Thanks for your help.

IIRC Outlook 2003 are encrypted in some form or another. You can do it, but you have to have 2003 installed for any other program to read and import it. You can remove 2003 once your mail is imported.

Thanks for the reply. I am like 99% sure that when I exported the .pst from 2K3, I did not check off any of the "encrypt" or "password protect" boxes. I think I'll export it again and test. If that doesnt' work, I will try upgrading the Office 2002 box to 2K3 and removing.

If anyone else has thoughts, please chime in.

Outlook 2003 added Unicode support to PST files.

These files are un-readable by lower versions of Outlook.

Winner.

If you make a pst using the 2002 format (in Outlook 2003), you should be able to move all the stuff from your 2003 format pst into the 2002 format one.

2002 (and lower) format has a max file size of about 2GB.

2003 (unicode) format has a max file size of about 20GB.

No PSTs made in 2003 are NOT compatable with xp.. sorry not backward compatable
they changed the entire way they work removing the 2GB limit among other bugs..
so XP does not know how to deal with the new compression and sees it as invalid.

Thanks very much, everyone; now I know for sure.

How do I save my 2K3 .pst as a 2K2 .pst? I don't remember seeing an option to do that. There's got to be a workaround. 🙁

My .pst is on my main PC which has 2K3 on it. I'm trying to put my .pst on my laptop, which has 2K2 on it.
