Outlook Express problems

So my father has been using Outlook Express for the past few years, and since he does not delete messages, his inbox has grown to gigabytes in size. Apparantely when he was shutting down Outlook Express it asked him if he wanted to compact his messages. He said yes, but then became annoyed that it was taking so long, and canceled the task and shut down the computer. Now he says that a year or so of messages are missing. How should I start recovering this? I don't use Outlook myself, so I am at a loss for ideas here...

This is a free tool to try and recover corrupted or lost emails in Outlook Express. I found it recently, but have not used it yet. I had a similar thing happen to a customers inbox but was not able to find a free fix while I was onsite.

There are a handful of programs that can be purchased to do Outlook Express recoveries.

If you try it, could you post the results, good or bad, back here?

Do him a favor and tell him about backing up to cheap external USB hard drives, too. When his hard drive fails (or he's unable to restore his lost OE emails), he'll wish he'd spent $50 or $75 on one.

I found this without doing a lot of looking.

Large Inboxes and OE = trouble and disappointment. I know as I've helped a number of people out in the past that horded emails.
