Outlook Express Problem

before i formatted, i must have encrypted certain files within the outlook express folder. when i formatted, i forgot i had to save the EFS encryption key to decrypt the data. so i when i setting up my mail again, i chose the outlook express store folder to be the folder with the encrypted data. i didnt realize this until i shut down outlook express to restart and soon as i click on OE to start, it crashes because the inbox.dbx, outbox.dbx, and other necessary outlook express files are encrypted giving the program problems.

so is there any way to set the store folder to something else so it doesnt crash outlook express? i do not want to go through another reformat to fix this problem. i know all hope is gone to recover the encrypted files themselves but surely there must be a way to either safe mode into outlook express or some registry tweak to change the store folder. thanks.

ok i solved my own problem. in winxp, just create a new user to get a clean registry for outlook express and copy everything in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities. Export it to a file. Then go back to your own user and import it. You should notice that you have some long string of letters and numbers. Basically, rename your imported key to match that. Then you can start Outlook Express. Just create a new profile and delete the older ones and you're set.

a 10 for me! =)
