I've got a problem here maybe somebody can help me with. Outlook Express is not getting my mail from my pop server. It works for awhile and then it quits. I have to do a "norton ghost" restore to get it to work again. This has been going on for about 3 or 4 months. It shows that it's connecting fine, no errors, but it just comes back no new messages. I can then check the web based mail service and I'll have new messages. I'm using OE 5, and I regualarly check the windows updates. TIA.

Are you sure it's your PC and not the mail server? What ISP is it that you get webbased mail via POP3 as well?

I'm not really sure what the problem is. I've called my isp and they have no idea. Seems like it must be my pc because if I reload it works fine. Maybe somethings changing a registry setting? I've to no idea. My isp is my local cable company (prestige, just a small cable company).

I had the same problem. I use @Home which the mail server is just plain "mail" but for some reason the setting were being changed to some IP address that had nothing to do with it. I just manually went in and changed it back. Working fine now..

Grey,

Thanks for the reply. Could you be a little for specific for the mentally challanged? :) Specifically, I'm not sure how to check the ip address for oe. I assume you mean my ip and not my isp's. Thanks again.

Well I have two things to say.. Do you have a regular ISP mail server to check? Maybe the web based one is malfuntioning.

But onto what fixed my problem.. Under tools/accounts/ properties. And then server, it was changing the actual incoming mail and outgoing mail server for some reason. I just changed it back to the right server.

Sorry if this is no help.

In Outlook Express 5.5 there is a button in the button bar that says Send/... Click on the down arrow next to send/. You will see a list and the bottom one should be your DEFAULT mail checking name.

Click on the Default name. Mine is:

postoffice.pacbell.net(Default)

I click on that to send and receive notes and it works perfectly.

Clicking on the Receive All and Send All does nothing. It just says no new mail at the bottom of the screen. I don't know how it got setup that way but it works is what counts.

If you do not have the Send/ button on your button bar you can select it by right clicking on the button bar in a clear space and in the menu that pops up select CUSTOMIZE to open that menu. On the left side are "available toobar buttons.

On the right side is the list of Current Toobar buttons. Select the button(s) on the left side you wish to add to your button bar. Click on the ADD-> button to add the new button(s) to your tool bar. Click on the CLOSE button when finished. Do not click on X.

Thanks, but that didn't work either. I haven't had the problem for awhile (after I installed 5.5),but it started again yesterday. Don't know what to do. I don't want to reformat again.
