Outlook Express messages backup....

Hi guys, about to upgrade my broken PC, (RMA'ing the MSI) to a new NF7-S. Backing up all the old files (mounted the HD on kids PC for now) so I have have a clean partition for the new WinXP install. Wife and kids use OE, where do I find their messages and address book/contacts? (what is the file called? I use Outlook and mine are *.pst and *.pab)

Thanks!!!!

That would be great, but undestand the PC that the HD has those files on is down. I have moved the HD into another PC, but I cant start OE for those users and backup the file as mentioned in that FAQ...

If the Data is all in *.wab files, can I grab those and import them into OE when I install a new XP load?

Ah... I see. Sorry. Probably the Documents and Settings Transfer Wizard should handle this well - it's pretty much what it was designed for. If it goofs, you should still be able to hunt down the *.wab files and message folders by hand. Not the cleanest way, but it should work.

Also any idea on Newsgroup files? I used OE only for a private MS Beta Newsgroup over the past couple years, any idea what kind of file that is?

Thanks!

Not sure. I'd guess they're kept in the same message store, but that really is just a guess. Hopefully someone else will wander by with a more definitive answer.

Outlook Express stores your actual emails in *.dbx files. Do a "Find Files" for "*.DBX". You should find

INBOX.DBX
OUTBOX.DBX

etc, etc.

*.wab files are the address book.
