outlook express backup

I recently backed up my outlook express .dbx folders in windows\app data\identities\(long name)\ microsoft\outlook express to a cd.
I then reformatted and reinstalled windows, put the dbx folders back into this folder, but they do not appear with my inbox, outbox, etc. Did I lose all my emails, or am I doing something wrong, or both.

Open Outlook Express. Click on Import. Choose messages. Choose which program you are importing from. Now click on the option below that says from a store directory. Browse to your cdrom, then you will see all of your folders. Just select the ones you want to import.

I suggest not importing unless absolutely necessary.

Copy the .dbx files to where you want them stored. Then go to tools > options > maintenance tab > store folder and direct it to the location you put the .dbx files. It will ask if you want to use those files or overwrite them. Answer accordingly, shut down and restart. They should all be there.

In OE6, open Tools, Options, then the Maintenence Tab. Go to the STORE folder and make it anything you want . . . even external or removable media. Designate your replacement folder and it will then appear for you.
