Outlook Express Auto Email Checking Question

I have my Outlook Express set to check my email every 2 minutes. But it only appears to check my email when the program is opened or minimized. I am use to my old Netscape email and my Neo Planet just staying in my system tray with a little icon and just popping up when I have email. Is this possible in Outlook Express, or is there a plugin or such for Outlook Express that will do something like this? If not could someone recommend a good email program that does this as well as many of Outlook Express' filter functions and rules?

Help would be appreciated

As far as I'm aware Outlook Express is unable to periodically check for email unless the application is actually running, I know Outlook 2002 is like then and I presume the same would be true for Outlook Express as it's merely a cut down and mildly neutered version of Outlook 2002.

I think you can find many programs out there that will let you monitor your email without actually having the application open. I think you have to open the app when you receive email though. Programs like ICQ which will stay in your tray, will notify you when you have email from outside sources, such as your POP email or maybe a webmail too, I'm not positive though. This way if you're waiting for your POP mail and don't want to keep Outlook open or use the resources, then you will know it's there when it arrives.

mavericks right, they have plenty of freeware/shareware programs that sit in the system tray checking email. i just downloaded a program called Easy Notification 2.0 that does this. just goto download.com or some other download site and do a search for e-mail notification.

I think the app actually has to be up and running. Outlook doesn't live in the system tray. Once it's off, it's off.
