Outlook Express 6

How can I get Outlook Express to run in the background basically I would like to be notified when my mail arrives by the sound. I'm sick of having to open OE6 to access my mail or to check for my mail. Any Ideas?

You can't get it to run as a background program like with a system tray icon. All you could do is leave it open on the taskbar. However there are probably thousands of freeware apps that can run in the system tray and check your mail account regularly to alert you when new mail arrives. Just search google or the various software download sites.

Tools\Options\General. Make sure you enable 'play sound when new messages arrive' and 'check for new messages every xxx minutes'

He still has to have IE running on the taskbar for that; I got the impression he's running the program anew every time to check. I thought OE defaulted to checking mail every 30 minutes. If he's already got it running, then just switching over to that window to see if there's a new message isn't all that hard.

No you are not understanding me I don't want to have to open it every time now leave it running on the taskbar where it's in the way.

So, like I said, download freeware that sits in the system tray (not the taskbar) and alerts you when you have new mail, then you can open OE to read it.
