Outlook Express 6.0 - Alternate identities (emails) not working.

I created some alternate email addresses, verified that they work via webmail (Mail2web.com, etc).

When I go into OE6 and Create a New Identity, I go ahead and put in all the pertinent info for the new email addy. But it doesn't resolve. The "enter password" error screen keeps popping up.

The password is fine; I checked it out via webmail. The account itself seems to be fine; the prob is with OE6...or at least I think it is.

Advice, please?

Have you checked that you're entering the right username/password, for most of my mail addresses, I have to enter the entire email address as the username

Well, you're talking about web-based mail, and OE is primarily designed for POP mail. I guess some webmail accounts can be set up in OE, but I think you need precise instructions from your email service provider about how to set it up.

In OE, when you go through the procedure for setting up a new Mail account and you get to the screen for E-mail Server Names, what are you putting in there?

I'm not clear - is it connecting to the server at all?

I'm not talking about web-based email, I am talking about regular SMTP email. I.E. your email resides on a server until you transfer it from said server to your home PC via an email client. I.E. Outlook Express.

I am HOSTED out on the web (like most of us are!)

OK, I have several email accounts under my domain. See this example:

Email 1. email1@mydomain.com
Email 2. email2@ mydomain.com
Email 3. email3@mydomain.com


I've used email1 for a long time; it works fine. The other day, I created email2 and email3. I created these new emails via the Control Panel for my webhosting. I can check these new emails via a Web-mail program and they work fine, so I know it's not my hosting that's messed up.

I went into OE and created a new identity. I set up the Email Account the exact same way I have my original, "email1" account set up. Same server names etc. When I try to check email for the new acccount, OE doesn't see my server!

Possibly, any "alternate identities" need to be setup differently, as Confused pointed out? I will check that out.

Well, I tried a lot of different things.

I put in the entire email addy instead of just the account name.
I tried killing all the extra identities and instead, just adding an additional email account to my Main Identity.
Etc, etc. Nothin'. There's got to be a way to make this work!!!
