I've just completed a re-install of my OS (Windoze '98). I put in IE 5.5 so that my system and browser were set up the same as before the re-install. Before re-installing I copied the Windows Address Book file (WAB) to disk, then once I'd re-installed, replaced the existing WAB with mine.
I had started up Outlook Express before copying my old WAB over to it, and all seemed fine. But once I had copied my WAB to the directory, and overwriting the new blank one, I just recieved "MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module MSOE.DLL" errors upon trying to start Outlook Express.
I've overwritten the original file, so can't use that anymore. I have tried opening my old WAB file, but just recieve a "The address book file has been locked by another application. Please close the other application and try again." errors.
I've done exactly what I always do after a re-install to restore my WAB to Outlook Express, so I don't understand what's gone wrong this time.
I wonder if installing the computer with different user name and company details has made the difference this time?
I have tried the IE repair function. And I tried un-installing Outlook Express 5.5. When I do that I can use the old Outlook Express 4, but still can't get into my WAB file.
Does anybody have any hints, tips, or ideas as to how I should go about stopping Outlook Express giving errors, so I can start it up.
Another problem I'm having with this install is getting the computer to shut down/re-start. If I tell it to re-boot, it just hangs on the Windows is Shutting Down screen. I have to wait about 20-30 seconds, then hit re-set. I have an AT form factor mobo with the ALI chipset, and Win '98.
Many thanks,
Mr_Wobble ;-)
