Our office uses first initial last name for email addresses. We have two people named Sue at my office, Sue Brown (SBrown) and Sue Jones (SJones). Sue Jones got married and now her name is Sue Smith (SSmith). I did a rename in Active Directory and created a new primary email address of SSmith, leaving SJones as another available email address. I also went into the Exchange General tab in ADUC and changed the Alias from SJones to SSmith. When I type Sue in the To:... field of a new email, I get the following options in a drop down menu:

Sue Brown <SBrown>
Sue Smith <SJones>

How do I get the <SJones> after Sue Smith to change to <SSmith>?

Were you logged into the exchange server when you opened ADUC? There are additional Exchange specific tabs, and additional alias information needs to be changed.

So just to be sure - did you create an additional account, or just rename the already created account and add another smtp connector?

Yes, I was logged in as network administrator on the exchange server when I was in ADUC. There are no alias options in Exchange Features (access to OWA, EAS, etc), Exchange Advanced (there is a "Simple display name" option but those are blank for everyone), or Email Addresses.

I just renamed the existing account and added another SMTP connector of SSmith@company.com and made it the primary. I left the old SJones@company.com as a secondary account so people unaware of the name/email change could still send her emails.
